Field Sales Travel Tips/Items

Hey salespeople! I'm a field sales rep who started a few months before the pandemic and now after being fully remote have transitioned back into the groove of traveling 1-2x per month visiting clients through the PNW. Wanted to hear some of people's favorite travel must haves from rental car tips to on the road necessities. For example some of mine are, never fly without Bose over the ear headphones and also, gas station bathrooms are repulsive (unless it's Buccees) so if you're in BFE, just find a grocery store.

I keep a cute lil pencil box that has a travel sewing kit, Tide pen, bandaids and neosporin, advil, travel tissues, altoids, and hand sanitizer.

Have similar, but it's a bag earned on a club trip - still has much of the same things in it + lip balm and small sun screen.

#1 law of work travel:
Use 1 credit card only to amass and consolidate miles or points as fast as possible. Ideally, that card is either an airline card or a hotel card. The AA card has a nice points bonus. The Marriott card does too.

AMEX Platinum gets it done too. Expensive card but pays for itself quickly if you use it exclusively for everything.

Ah dang I’m jealous your company lets you use your own card. I’ve got to use the corp card, but I try to stay at Marriott and take United or Alaskan to accumulate points.

united and alaska don't code share - switch to American/alaska for code sharing points. Its worth it.

Well , you won’t find a buccees outside of TX, so I hope you can hold it.

Other than that, travel with a towel.

I always bring mints and these scope disposable toothbrushes, nothing more distracting than bad breath! And I drink a ton of coffee when I'm on the road, so I also like to have those hydration tablets that you put in water, hydrates much better than water alone.

Is this a real thing? Hydration tablets? Made out of what?
Is this powdered water that you just add water to in order to make water?

wtf

Big thing of chewing gum in the cup holder. Stock up on bevvys for the road. Charging cables, personal hotspot, other tech needs. Assuming most of your travel is via car.

What's the ratio for car/air travel?

Good info above on cc, hotels & airline.

I have a travel bathroom bag with all my toiletries in it. Also keep electronic cords, including power supply for my laptop in my laptop bag.

When you get to your overnight stay, check with the hotel staff on any unique restaurants in that town. You can eat at Olive Garden anywhere. I have found some really cool and different restaurants that way.

Enjoy the travels.

Status matters! Find the airline, hotel, rental car, etc. that is best for the area you will operate in and stick to those. If they offer a CC where you can earn status faster get it.
