Finding a new job with a head hunter vs. organically

I might be on the hunt to find a new job soon. Is it better to work with a staffing company such as Betts, or should I apply only to the companies I select/find on LinkedIn. Or both?

If you can find a firm-based recruiter who has access to several roles, then you stand a better chance of getting into the applicant flow since it's a direct port. It's like a referral to a company that you don't know anyone at. Tell them about all the companies you're looking at, let them get you into the ones that they have relationships with, and you go after the ones they don't.

Exactly. If you're able to find a recruiter who's actually going to put their neck out for you, they're an invaluable asset. Be wary, however, as there are recruiters who will string you along and ghost at any moment.

Afraid of them ghosting me. I don't want to get my hopes up if they have 10 other candidates who are more qualified.ย

Good point! Sometimes I feel like staffing companies have so many people in their pipeline for a particular role as well. Do you know if a company will prioritize the staffing companies suggestions?ย

In my experience, it totally depends on the client, the relationship between the recruiter or AM and the hiring manager, and the role in question. Lots of clients have favorite staffing agencies after building rapport and consistently providing good candidates and vice versa.ย

If you're able to connect with a recruiter who's in that sort of position, you're in great shape. However, there are companies that are known for just spewing resumes all over and clients don't take them as seriously, so you'd be in a worse position working with a recruiter there.

I think having as many "coals in the fire" as possible is the best way to go about job hunting. So both๐Ÿค

Cast a wide net, try both.ย  But in case you didn't know, keep in mind the recruiting firm typically gets paid from the hiring company out of your first-year salary.

Maybe I should apply to the company organically after I find out who they are ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Not a bad idea, although they might have you sign something before they disclose any leads they may have for you.

Often if a company is using a recruiting firm they'll direct all interested candidates back to that firm for screening/interviews. Also, once they've started the interview process with a candidate most firms will have "claim" to that person to stop the very above thing from happening. This means that even if the candidate is hired directly by the company, the recruiter could still get their commission as normal.ย

I am an ex recruiter and I advice against this. Recruiters can sell your profile and make you stand out more than you would if apply directly. They know how the companies interview, type of questions asked. And itโ€™s their best interest to get you interviews and for you to do well in interviews because theyโ€™ll get paid if you get placed. Tha/ my 2 cents

Head hunter that gets paid by the company not by you organic is great but I would still recommend using a warm lead
