Fired after pointing out we're breaking the law

A "Text Message" step is repeated 3 times in our C-suite outbound cadence... Not good... I mentioned to my boss that the company has been breaking federal laws for the past 6 months, and then they fire me the next day "for being [4 minutes] late" to a meeting... 

What to do?

They’ll probably never get in trouble. Just walk away and leave them a bad review that’s like 2-3 stars so they can’t sue you and you can help deter good employees away from accepting offers there.

If you have documented proof that they are A) Breaking the law and B) Knew and did nothing about it...then here is what I'd do:

1) Ask for a PHAT check to leave quietly. Have to word this with a sly slant to it.
2) If they push you out without anything then go to the proper authorities. Karma is a bitch, and she's out for blood.

Ask yourself if it’s worth the hassle. And the stress. And the mental energy wasted going to them vs focusing on a new role. Personally, I would walk and leave the bad review in this case. Suing them only if I had exhibits A through Z, because it will drain you in so many ways. Much more than them . It sucks 100%. Super sorry this happened to you .

As noted by others retaliation is very hard to prove unless you can find something in writing. 

Push for a fatty of a severance and get out there on the market.

I don't understand how that's legal - so many states are messed up.

There's still retaliation and whistleblower type protection laws (though this wouldn't count as the latter, I don't think)

I'm not up to speed on federal laws regarding text messages but it sounds like you need to focus on getting a new job.  If you documented your whistle blowing and have a strong employment track record then a conversation with an employment attorney might be a good idea.  Otherwise, move on.

Definitely push for that fat severance. Retaliation is difficult to prove, but I guarantee they don't want to back publicity of anything like this so they will be more likely to pay you out and keep you quiet. Blackmail is also hard to prove... if you do it right 🧐

They did you a favor and showed their true colors. Let it be, if they are willing to fire you over something like that, then they will a pain in the ass to deal with if you go at them. Plus, you will end up sitting back and laughing at their sinking ship from a new gig (been there before). Good luck.

Get an hourly lawyer (preferably one who works with sales reps) to send some mean threats and raise your severance.  Sounds like you got zero network worth salvaging and you should probably keep the company off your resume.

If you do want to go after them for retaliation, make sure there is nothing else they can use as evidence to fire you for (i.e. under-performance, peer/manager reviews, unwilling to come back to the office, etc.). I've seen companies use these topics as a way to protect themselves for firing an employee they wanted gone
