First Pitch Competition for $1000 (post your pitch today!)

Friends, Family, Rivals, and Lovers,

Most salespeople think they could sell ice to an Eskimo. Well... talk is cheap. Time to prove it.

*drum roll* The Inaugural War Room Pitch Contest: Operation Kitchen.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it:

  • Record a video (45 seconds or less) of you pitching your favorite kitchen item: Blender? Sure. Spoon? Why not.
  • Post your video on LinkedIn and tag @ Bravado with the hashtags #BravadoWarRoom and #OperationKitchen
  • Get your parents / friends / coworkers to like it
  • Be as creative as you want!

There are 3 prizes you can win:

  • Top Pitch (most likes on LinkedIn) - Prize: $1000
  • Most Creative Pitch (chosen by Corp + WR officers) - Prize: $250 gift card
  • War Room Member's Choice (chosen by your fellow sales savages in the War Room) - Prize: War Room swag

Timeline:

Starts: Post your pitch (on Linkedin) Monday, April 19 @ 12am PST

Ends: Wednesday, April 21 @ 11:59pm PST

Winners announced: Friday April 23rd.

Remember: the earlier you post, the more time you have to rack up likes and boost your chance of winning.

Let's see what you got, savages.

I'll be honest here - I don't love it.

Why?

1. Basing a winner on LinkedIn activity has too much potential to turn into a popularity contest.

2. Some people use LinkedIn purely for prospecting or to have some kind of online presence when applying for jobs/networking and aren't comfortable posting a contest video. In that same vein, other people purposefully cultivate a certain image on LinkedIn to get at the right prospects etc and posting a contest video would clash with that.

I appreciate the creativity and enthusiasm, but my rec is to keep these types of activities and contests exclusively on Bravado.

I’m kind of in the same boat as you, to be honest. I like the creativity of the contest but posting it on LinkedIn is a deal breaker for me.

I second this. I would much prefer it be on Instagram or Facebook. Those are a bit more personal for me, and is not as closely tied to my actual job. There are still plenty of sales people on other platforms, if not more than LinkedIn.

Agreed - it will be a nice SEO boost for Corp and the War Room, but a lot left to be desired in terms of who will actually get an honest look or not.

Would love to see a video submission contest via the War Room though!

If this specific contest is on Bravado, anonymity goes out the window. It would need to be on some other platform.

True. It would have to be a voice only presentation to maintain anonymity.

I think the people who know me would know my voice. And I wouldn’t like them to know.

100%. I've worked too hard to create a LinkedIn presence that I am an expert in my industry, not a sales expert. I don't want my prospects/clients to see my as a sales expert. This would tarnish that.

+1. There are some people who have great engagement on their LI posts. Likes on LI post is in no way a correct way to know if the selling was good or not.

Moving forward, it would be cool if we could upload them here, rather than LI. I think there would be much higher engagement that way. As others have said, many of us use LI as a vehicle to connect with customers and prospects.

Is there a way to enable MP4 attachments to posts & comments? The moderators could start a thread for uploads. This would also partially help, because those of us not connected with others on LI would still be able to easily see all the submissions. I am sure there will be some awesome ones.

If boosting traffic to the War Room/Bravado is the goal, unsure posting about "why my giant spatula/spoon/knife multi tool I got from a dollar store is the best kitchen item" will get the target people we want in here anyway.

I would much rather upload a spoof pitch here, and save the LinkedIn post for how constructive and collaborative this platform is.

I like this line of thinking, to add, maybe we can anonymize the actual user submission name ie. Sadnesslieutenant, when we post a video here, that way noone can correlate the two and prove our identity but we can still get a linkedin shoutout and yall can post it on ur linkedins if u want

Totally agree .I try to keep my LinkedIn posts industry related content to drive traffic from my prospects, rather than other sales people.

Also, those that sell into Sales roles will likely have an automatic leg up because a VP of Sales is way more likely to watch, like, comment on something like that than a CIO or VP of Finance.

I'd be more than happy to make a separate post to give kudos and exposure to Bravado & the War Room. Would love the next contest to stay off of LinkedIn!

This is a great take. Let's leave these contests in Bravado.

Won't the winner being crowned by the most LinkedIn likes just turn into a popularity contest?

Potentially. But I also think good content reigns supreme. Thats why we have other awards too. This first one is an experiment to determine how/if we do these moving forward. We shall see.

Was going through the T&C and see that I'm not eligible to take part since I'm in India. Do we have it on the roadmap to expand this territory/ geography?

Does this mean, people outside of the US can't exchange commish and win any contests either? @GeneralCorp @sahil

Hey @Donniedarko- We are actively working with our counsel to expand future competitions and contests to more countries, including India, so all our members can take part. Thanks for being patient with us.

You can still exchange your commission points in the Commission Exchange, do not worry!

Let's set it up as voting submission here for the fam to decide.  Leave it on LI - nice promo for Bravado.

@GeneralCorp - Should the videos include user tags? If not I would make that a rule in the description.

Unfortunately, I was about to pitch my 10-year-old charcoaled pan, that's hanging to dear life. Definitely can't showcase my peasant living on Linkedin. - for that reason, I am out of this contest.
