For the job seekers…

There have been several posts lately from people looking for a job about how to prep, get an edge, etc. I came across this post on LI which really resonated with me. Havkng been on both sides of the table and been, at times, desperate for a job, this is some of the best advice and insight I have seen.

please note - this is not from me, I don't know the OP, nor do I aspire to be a LI influencer. I'm just looking to help out a fellow sales person.

That means most interviews are not structured. They're not objective. And hiring decisions?... Often based on a gut feeling. →“I like them.” →“They’d be a good culture fit.” →“We’d get along.” So what does that mean for YOU? ↳ It’s not just about being qualified — it’s about being memorable, likable, and relatable. ↳Connection matters. ↳First impressions count. ↳Confidence. Communication. Curiosity. These are just as critical as credentials. If you’re feeling discouraged because you didn’t get the job — remember this: It might not have been about your experience ►It might have come down to chemistry. So…. → Be prepared. Do your research. Know about the team and company. → Make it about them….not YOU. How can you bring VALUE. → Ask GREAT questions (about the company, goals, culture, future)...

This is so true! In all my interviews, I’ve tried to go above and beyond just to put a lasting impression - so that they simply remember me!

Things like putting up a whiteboard in the background with the name of the Panelists and round #. Or going through their LinkedIn and pointing it out in the discussion subtly.

These things matter so much!

I have noticed this many times. I just interviewed with a VP for a building materials company. The HR manager did a screening email with me and then forwarded it him. It was very obvious early in my interview with the VP that he had not been trained how to interview high level sales executives. I was expecting a much high level of professionalism with the types of questions asked. He also was very unprepared. He was reading my resume and notes from the HR manager for the first time during my interview. I am sure he is an excellent VP, but hiring is not one of his skill sets.
