Former Coworker on The Bachelorette

A former AE of mine is on this current season of The Bachelorette, and it was pretty fun to see him on primetime ABC last night. He's a great dude and I don't worry about his behavior or anything, but I've always thought about this.

A ton of people make fools out of themselves on reality TV while still having a job on hold back home. How were they treated when they got back? Were customers/clients aware of their TV stint and did their view of them or their company change?

Have any of you ever dealt with a pseudo-celebrity in a professional setting and if so, how did your previous knowledge of them influence your approach and experience?

Just seems like an interesting thing to choose to do when there's rarely an upside besides free clout and your entire reputation could be at risk.

If the opportunity presented itself, would you participate in a reality TV show?

My sister did a reality TV show, and I was offered one when I was cool. She *adamantly* told me to never do it.ย

the problem is that they control the narrative, not you. And it doesnโ€™t matter how you behave, theyโ€™re gonna edit the shit out of things to make you look a certain way. You donโ€™t even get paid.ย

not worth the risk IMO

I agree. I don't know much about the reality TV world but I have heard little rumblings of people saying they weren't portrayed truly...and its kind of sad that I've only heard little rumblings because I think they all have NDA's and need to keep their mouths shut...anyways that was a tangent....I'm risk adverse so I'd say no BUT on the other hand, they all seem to be living their best lives and get lots of ad endorsements after to support these luxurious lives...so maybe I could be swayedย

@slaydieย they absolutely sign NDAsย

but itโ€™s like anything - how many people have been on reality shows and how many have *really* made it ?ย

Im a heavily tattooed woman who was in โ€œthe horsey setโ€ - they wanted to pitch me as โ€œAmericaโ€™s next โ€œitโ€ girl.โ€

for fucking sure they would portray me as some punk ass rebel your parents warned you about hanging with celebs and rich peeps. That is the exact opposite of me. I made it because I was *more* professional than everyone else, even though I didnโ€™t look the part. Reputation is everything and I worked damned hard for mine. I would never allow some tv producer hack any opportunity to ruin it.ย

Preach!! I totally agree. They take things from how you look or where you come from etc and spin a story they way they want to tell. You're right, I wouldn't want to allow some producers to dictate my story.

With you all the way. I think the bachelor/ette is madly entertaining but also sums up the scum that is the entertainment industry. Wrote an essay about it in college actually.

I'd be up for it, depending on the show.

I have worked with and know a good number of people that have been on reality TV shows. Most disliked the experience.

The bachelorette and bachelor teach men and women that it's ok to date 20 people at a time and pick who you like based off of superficial characteristics and pointless drama. No thanks.

If you can sell, you can sell yourself on a reality show

I don't know about that one, you see a lot of people go up in flames. RTV might be the only worth adversary for one in sales. And just like @Incognitoย said, they control the narrative and they'll push their agenda to paint you however they want.
