Free Sources to learn Cyber Security solutions from the scratch?

Hey All,

Firstly, thank you for all the help I got in getting the answer to my previous question about joining a company called PingSafe. I have accepted the offer and I will be joining them in 30 days.

Considering that, I absolutely have zero experience and zero knowledge in selling Cybersecurity, I want to start learning the basics.

Basics like concepts, technologies, terminologies, and basic architecture.

Can you please suggest to me where I can learn all this from? Preferably free sources where I can learn & remember in a structured way.

I want to use the next 30 days to get my basics right so that I understand the positioning of Pingsafe solutions better.

To give a background, Pingsafe offers CNAPP, CSPM, CWPP, KSPM, IaC, and CDR solutions.

@braintank Tagging you right away because I am confident that you can help.

Thank you for the help.

I would seriously scour YouTube. I would also visit every cybersecurity company’s website and watch the videos and read their literature. Finally I would just google “cybersecurity tutorial “ and watch that.

First, you'll get training when you start (hopefully) so don't worry too much about knowing everything day 1.

I've worked in the space (CNAPP) and knew 0 about cloud security when I started. It all sounded like greek to me (literally, AWS serverless function is called Lambda).

I got up to speed through a mix of:

1) internal training
2) watching a lot of customer demos (live and recorded)
3) playing around in our demo environment

Since you're an AE and not an SE, it's more important to understand the business impact of the tool (the why) initially vs the technical details (the how). You'll have an SE for that and you'll pick it up gradually.

If you want some reading i'd suggest:
• Case studies of competitors (Wiz, Orca, Palo Prisma)
• Gartner's recent CNAPP white paper: https://www.wiz.io/blog/how-cnapps-identify-and-prioritize-excessive-risk-in-a-single-platform-gartner#:~:text=download%20the%20full%20complimentary%20document

Wow! This helps. Will definitely go through this.

And yes, internal training would be given with respect to the product, but not cloud security basics. During the product training, I need to understand what terminologies are being used and what it means. In order to be able to do that, I need to learn some basic stuff and that's where I need help.

Thank you for this!

A simple google search yielded some nice results. Looks like some universities offer ‘boot camps’ (probably have to pay) that could be an option. YouTube will be a good option as previously mentioned.

Eh, I look at it more as: with all these resources out there, which ones do I look at and focus on, which ones can I skip? It could be overwhelming.

I'm aware. I need help in knowing what's important and what's not. Need help with learning in a structured format.

I've never seen any free resources aside form youtube videos lol

I made one inquiry with a cyber security program at a nearby university, and now they call me every three months trying to get me to enroll in their 25k program lol

I have nothing of value to add here. Other than possibly this. If you can work the word “prophylactic” into your safety pitch, you win.
