From a lot of money to more money but not enough money

So 2023 was the best and worst time. Made the most money in my life that year. Now I'm scraping by on contract work with half the money, and zero benefits/no time off.

Granted, I was making nearly nothing my whole adult life but now I'm 30 and right at 100k (self employment sucks) feeling like I am failing at life after seeing what life could have been like.

I wanted to fucking make so much goddamn money it didn't matter what other problems I had outside work were. Actually raise kids without being a poor. Finally join a country club where I could play golf and get drunk every other weekend.

Anyway, rant over, back to busting ass for 60+ hours for this shit show I'm running now.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
That’s the dream. Hard to achieve it though. I have 5 kids and have been chasing that dream since before they existed in my scrotum.

My advice - play the long game. Where do you want to be in 5 years, 10’years? How do you need to invest in yourself NOW in order to get there?

Personally - I earned a few tech certs and relentless called on companies I wanted to work for until one finally hired me.

So whether it’s going back to school or leveraging LI (which didn’t exist when I was 30) to network like crazy with future employers - invest in yourself now for that future payoff.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I'm 36 and after failing to find another sales job since I was let go in October last year, I'm working at a call center making $40k a year (company wouldn't even interview me for their sales position). I make less than half what my wife makes. You think you feel like you're falling behind? You've already lapped me and you're coming around to do it again.

Focus on the positives, forget the negatives, breathe! 🙂
Seriously, consider how much worse things could be, health of your loved ones? What really matters aside from that when it comes to it?

Live Filthy or Die Clean
COUNTRY CLUBS ARE OVERRATED! You can get drunk on a course every other weekend without the money burning membership expenses.

Automate anything you can - for the cost of 1 lunch/mo you can utilize some AI programs to make your work life a bit easier with some admin tasks (note taking and following up to meetings etc).
Nobody said it would be easy and stop going to LinkedIn or Instagram to compare yourself to other's fantasy illusions of their lives. Half the people you think are so much better off than you had family money or hit a miracle win. The rest were doing what you were doing and they got over the tip of the mountain and now are rolling along.

You got this and yeah shit sucks but your 30 and a lot happens in the 30-35 years in a professional sense from my experience. EMBRACE THE SUCK.

You probably already know this, but the "other problems" don't go away with more money. I thought the same thing and it's not the case. So go get the bag but also go get that therapy too.

You aren’t alone with 2024 being much harder than 2023. Ride the waves!

Money doesn’t erase problems.

Country Clubs activate “keeping up with the Jones’” syndrome

You can work on your relationship with money, but you can’t expect it to make you feel any less hungry. Take it from someone who makes a fair bit but thinks he’s broke.

Yeah I figured that was the case but it sure looks relaxing if you’re able to comfortably afford membership.

Membership is one thing. Minimum spends are another. Keeping up is the ultimate crusher.

Save in hard assets if you want to be wealthy and don’t touch them. Fidelity did a study that the best portfolios were off dead people. Get long and put excess cash into things that can’t be debased. 🧱 by 🧱 you will build wealth
