Fuck this shit: Rant on Inbound SQL/MQL

Fellow war roomers,

I don't get how these fucking SQLs put in a request for a demo and then get pissed off when you call them about it or email them about it. They literally say they want a demo and then we have to call them to disco but they're like "stop calling me" when it's the 1st call or they say "I've gotten so many calls from you" when literally the SQL popped in like 2 minutes ago and no one else has touched them.

My favourite is when they give you a date and time to call back at to do discovery or reschedule a call and they hang up as soon as you say "it's {{name}} from {{company}}".

Like why did you put in a request if you don't want one. The best is "I did it by accident - take me off your list". Honestly I wish we could tell them gfy. **hangs up** and emails me that I should understand not to contact them after they have told me they have enough information but keep telling me dates of meetings etc.

ahhh yeah this is classic.

This is really marketings fault. They have probably done some performance marketing shit where they pretty much TRICK ppl into filling out a demo form haha.

Sorry you are dealing with this.

This is one of those reasons why sales and marketing are never on the same team

Right! The contact is interested in a white paper or report, but to get it, they have to fill out a form for a meeting and provide dates. They're irritated at the process from the start.

yessss!

Also marketing idea that "hey if they look at THIS piece of content that means they are more likely ready to make a decision than if they looked at this OTHER piece of content" is such BS.

that is NOT how ppl buy software these days.

Nope, sometimes they are just curious and you've just put a big fat hurdle in front of them.

OMFG! I have this exact problem but in reverse. We actually have a fantastic piece of marketing content (gtfo no way!) that actually IS a great indicator of a prospect being in the early buying stages...

But marketing don't like this piece of content which they created so they don't use it in any of their ads... ๐Ÿ™ƒ

yeah makes sense - I guess marketing should get the bad rap sales gets for being annoying - they're the ones giving people's info to us.

If I had a dollar for every time I wanted to tell a prospect to gfy I'd be able to retire in a house made of money. I may actually do it when the day comes that I do decide to retire.

I've actually been thinking about that anyways. Been making more money than I originally thought and need to find something to do with it.

I guess you could mitigate it a bit by sending out an email prior to a call to double check that they actually want to talk. I have personally never run into that problem though.
