Gambling addiction in office

Hey everyone a colleague of mine has a severe gambling addiction, and I can see it's affecting not only his work life but his personal life as well. He wakes up at 730 in the office and is already betting on the John Deere open. He is a colleague of mine but he is a friend first. My other colleague is super concerned as well, but is it appropriate to have an intervention with him or should I sit back and watch him gamble his life away. He's currently asking for advanced paychecks so he can pay his bookie and STILL doesnt see a problem with it. Hes going down a dark hole I dont know if we can get him out of it. Any advice?

k seriously what in the fuck is going on in your office?

Your recent threads:

People injuring themselves on hoverboards at the office

Trying to manage a bunch of people you can't stand

Rep showed you his dick because he got the clap and wanted PTO

Yesterday a rep's dog died and now he's gone for two weeks

Now someone else is addicted to gambling...

Hard to stray away when you're in that deep. Challenge him to go at least as week without betting and if he can't do that, follow Chep's advice and fade his picks. Might as well make some money lol

The big question would be does he usually win or lose? If he makes dumb bets then I would start betting against him and taking him for all he has. Then in the end making him homeless and living a sad pitiful life and then you can tell him you told him so

Gambling is no joke. I grew up among serious gamblers and I've seen the worst of the worst...like a big house to homeless shit.ย

If you're tight with your coworker and he's willing to listen, then you should definitely talk to him 1:1. Intervention by a group never helps since the person gets put on the spot and can get defensive or just flatout say what you'all wanna hear to just leave the room.ย

Honestly, short of going all Britney Spears' legal guardian on him by taking away his cash and stuff, this is a tough one. You can help but he needs to be willing to listen and accept your help or else, this will just go on and on. Again, coming from personal experience...good thing we're all anonymous here.ย

Iโ€™d definitely have a talk with him, as someone who likes to dabble in sports gambling time to time, last thing I want is to be firing off John Deere picks at 7:30 and lose self control, have a chat with him and slap some sense into him

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
A buddy of mine lost north of $500k doing this shit. If this person is truly a friend, yeah, it's worthwhile to say something. He's on the road to bankruptcy/getting seriously hurt when he can't pay.

Bro that's tough, gambling addictions have ruined countless life's, i haven't deal with that exact addiction but with most of them the best thing you can do i support the person and help them to et some auto control, but that person first has to be aware of his own situation and then start looking for help, if he doesn't do that first there wont be anything you can doย

As someone with a prior gambling addiction and in sales, I have almost zero advice.ย  It will be impossible for him to be receptive to any help until he realizes how its negatively affecting his life.ย

Experienced the same with a colleague, sad situation. The first thing he's got to do is accept he's got a gambling problem, can't do much without him acknowledging his problem.ย

Losing a dog is terrible, but two weeks does sound excessive. That said, he might be going through other issues that you don't know about and the dog death was just the cherry on top of the shit cake.
