Getting a SDR to AE promotion! How to negotiate for higher pay?

Title says it. HR is still firming up the budgets so I'm turning to the Bravado community for help so that I can be prepared to negotiate. I know internal hires get paid lesser than an external hire, so is it possible for me to still negotiate for a higher salary since I haven't had closing experience?

For context, I've been a solid SDR and BDR, consistently smashing my quota, achieving 150-200% month on month. I don't know what to expect for my salary. I'm based in APAC so there's no data on Repvue or Compgauge or Glassdoor.

1. Should I minimally expect the AE base to be around the same as my current SDR base?

2. Is expecting a 1:4 or 1:5 ratio when it comes to OTE:Quota reasonable?

3. How much more stock options do I ask for?

4. Any other tips are much appreciated!!

Definitely push for a higher base than your current one. Maybe 1.5x and see what they say. Make sure you push for more than you want so you have some wiggle room.

and HUGE congrats!!

Congrats !

I am not sure about the APAC but AE’s base is higher than SDR’s for sure. It’s always a good idea to speak about the things that bothers you so if you’re not happy with the offer it’s worth to have a convo in the right way to make sure it doesn’t put you in danger.

I missed number 2. We do a 1:5 for OTE:Quota.

Not sure how the stock play will work, I've only got options on signing.

Congrats on the opportunity. I would say go ahead and ask. Pull your data together and use it as leverage.

1. the AE base should be at least 20% higher.
2. not sure the question , Base to OTE should be about 50/50
3. none lol
4. usually you have 0 bargaining power. it's ur first AE position, you are already in a contract and lucky they are promoting you at all. There isn't any real, leeway you have bc if u dont take the position sally will and u will still be an SDR. Unless you start interviewing for AE roles outside but even that isn't really even smart bc you dont know what u are walking into and therefore ur bargaining power is sort of gone.

All you can do is say, what brought the team to give me this number as a base/OTE?

Is this what you are going to be paying outside hires for this same role?

"On repvue typically AE's in this position make X/OTe/ YR, why is this position different?'

Let them know u know ur getting screwed if you are and chances are they will think twice before giving u a sour deal because you can hop after 1 yr of exp

Congratulations on the promo!
That being said, definitely shoot for that 1.5x base — but hey if they say no, you’ll still have the role. Once in the role you can apply elsewhere and leverage new offers against your current place of employment down the road if you prove a strong track record. Either way you’re still going to be making more taking the leap from sdr/bdr to AE.

you have very little power in this scenario.

I would talk to other people in your company and see if they can tell you what their base is and use that as leverage. But dont tell the company that is how you got the info, just tell them "its your understanding that the industry average is X"

as a first time AE coming from an SDR, you would be lucky if you get ANY stock.

Remember, this is your first AE role. not your last.
Its not all about what this comp package looks like as much as its about what your NEXT one will be like. dont worry too much if this isnt amazing.

Should I take a higher paying SDR role that beats the AE OTE of my current company, or get promoted to AE for the experience
