Nothing earth shattering but it might help newbies out:

# or * usually brings you to a dial by name directory even if it doesn't state it in the menu.

To get away from the gatekeeper, try calling offices between 12-1 their time. It'll often just go to an automated directory if they're on lunch.

If you're at a loss, try dialing the sales dept or a random sales rep. When they answer you can say "ah sorry I was trying to reach (Name) but I think the directory screwed up, can you give me their correct extension? Often sales is too busy to worry about you and will just transfer you over or they'll know what you're doing and if they're cool, will help a brotha or sista out.ย

The sales line trick works wonders. For whatever reason DiscoverOrg/ZoomInfo has recently been way more accurate surfacing cell #s as well. I always call cell #s if available.

I'd be curious to see the rates of calls leading to leads/deals/opps between calling office numbers and cell numbers. Any chance you've got conversion rates from answered calls to created deals?ย

My first reaction was that people won't like having their cell cold called, but my second reaction was that people already don't like their office being cold called so it might be a wash and that higher answer rate of a cell phone is well worth it.

The sales line/department is a great idea. For groups that don't have a strong selling focus (in my case, hospitals) the marketing people can be a good way in. They are usually active on the phone/email, know who does what in the org, and are always interested in new things to improve their company.

listen to the prompts..sometimes it lets you dial by name...also when they say "oh not avail" ask when is a better time to call...wait for response, and they say ok is there like a specific ext or secret code I gotta say to get to them..most the time it catches them off guard and they say it!ย

We are also not selling data nor will we ever sell data as long as I'm here. The "data" I hope to collect is around the health of sales. The sales industry. Ya know, the polls y'all like to post? By having the largest community of salespeople I hope we can provide interesting/useful data to our community. Not to sell it, but to become the sales industry leader.
