Getting leadership as an SDR, advice?

So I've been at my company as an SDR a few months and we're hiring some new SDRs. Since I'm the solo outbound rn and built out the process - I'm the only one who really knows what to do.

So I'm taking an active role in training these guys and working on outbound together.

Should I also be involved in performance tracking? Or should I just train and let them go? I also need to focus on my own performance and stay at the top of the leader board.

Any advice on mindset, working together and leading them? With a promotion in mind for either Lead SDR (hoping to negotiate this if I hit quota consistently) or AE (in about 9 to 10 months)

@bayshark - sweet !

Iโ€™m an SDR Manager and can tell you the role has its pros and cons.

AEs make at least 10X the commission I make, and that sucks big time. Theyโ€™re also listened to more, given prom queen treatment - especially the top performing ones. If the pipe ainโ€™t there, theyโ€™d suck the life out of you.

On the bright side, if you can build scalable, repeatable processes for the SDR team which runs like a well oiled machine and get yourself off calling and pipeline quota, you can get off by working 2 hours / day (though Iโ€™d not recommend that).

Amazing. And is the next step up for you to be an AE?ย  I really like the strategy going into building scalable processes - what are the job titles within sales for that

sounds like you are in a nice spot!ย

When thinking about a promotion start thinking about the problems that person would have, and solve them.ย

for example: SDR manager.

they will need a simple way to track activity metrics in the CRM
track progress against goals
have an easy way to share that with leadership.ย

Build that out now and show your leadership you are thinking ahead.ย

also starting putting together a "sales process/rules of engagement" doc.ย

something that explains the process for:ย
-creating an opportunityย
-Logging activities in CRMย
-how to understand your territoryย
-how to hand off opportunities to AEsย
things like that.ย

this can also include any training materials for new reps.ย
Something to make the training process repeatable.ย

if you can get this together, you will be in great shape for a promotion in my mind.ย

Thanks a lot! I've already written out that sales process and added training for new hires- so glad to know I'm on the right path.ย

I will start working on how to track and report the metrics better tho. Thank you!ย
