Getting political in an interview?

Just got off the phone with a recruiter/founder who made 2 comments that shared his opinion about his political stance within a 10 minute call. After each comment he was seeking validation from me, which I wasn't going to give. Think vaccine and DEI. I think his interest in me went down without me enthusiastically sharing his political point of views.

We live in such a political world that I don't see why it needs to blend in with the professional so much.

Talking politics is never appropriate at work unless you're working for a political party. Guy is a moron.

It's (well, among other things) been a huge turnoff for me with LI.ย  ย Think it's a good idea as a job candidate or employer to be so brazenly political on your feed?ย  ย  UGH.

I think you made the right move. Likely if someone is seeking validation from you for political views during an interview it will become an issue in the workplace should you take the job.

If yours don't align, you're likely not going to be comfortable working there.ย

Personally, when I was job searching I avoided any companies that showcased any political stances in even the slightest way. There's a frighteningly large percent of them that do.

I don't want to be somewhere that I have to worry about that becoming a factor in my standing within the company. It's pretty easy to deduce my political leanings based on my interests and folks that are willing to bring that into the conversation early on are definitely taking it into consideration whenever making decisions that involve you.

Highly inappropriate. When I interview candidates the only beliefs I care about is whether or not they think deadlines are flexible, if math is real, and Coke v Pepsi.
But seriously, politics do not have a place in a non-political job interview.

Super weird! Although more and more companies are requiring vaccines so it is a conversation topic that may come up depending on the company. That said, he should keep his personal opinions to himself and definitely unprofessional in a first conversation that lasted ten minutes!

Iโ€™ve Stopped multiple interview processes for exactly this reason. I donโ€™t care where on the political spectrum you or your company lie, but I can only imagine the culture of companies that do this.

No. Just no. Although, for some companies, vaccines are required so they can ask about your status there.
Off hand, were you interviewing with Cornerstone Church by chance? And is your name Brandon?
End of line.

Yea.ย  They can ask whatever they want, I'll answer whatever I want.

Yeah, super inappropriate. If they'll mention shit like that when they don't even know you, imagine the stuff they'll say when they actually do know you. Suuuuper weird

Yea. He was stereotyping hard.ย  Not all people who disagree with your political opinion are on the other side of the spectrum.ย ย

At least you know what you are getting versus a closet Rep/Dem that you don't know about and are forced to listen to all the time once you get the job.ย  I think that transparency is key.ย  Sure you will turn off candidates, but you will also turn off the candidates that might not work out down the road.ย ย

But I agree with @funcouponsย that politics shouldn't be discussed at work.ย  I just wish everyone adhered to that philosophy.ย ย

My entire company thinks itโ€™s totally okay and acceptable to post their opinions on the rittenhouse verdict, BLM, and Guns. Itโ€™s fucking insane.
