Getting recruited

I’m sure if you all have been recruited when you’re not looking, I’ve been very happy so haven’t really entertained anything. I just had a recruiter reach out to me with something interesting, what is your advice to vet out companies (particularly start ups) that are recruiting you?

I talk to all recruiters but also let them know i am not currently looking. But forming a relationship is key cause lets be honest, we are in sales, nothing is permanent.

Also if it is appealing, check it out!!!!!!!

Never hurts to take a recruiter's call if the position sounds interesting. It's the recruiter's job to sell you as to why you should take the next interviewing step. Just be honest with them, tell them you aren't actively looking and you'd need x, y, z to consider moving to another position.

I'm particularly wary of leaving a job you're happy with to join a start up, since most of them fail in their first few years and culture can be...interesting.

- Disorganized hiring process/hiring team

- Company does not have a great value prop

- Can't clearly outline what your role/responsibilities are

- I'd be the first in that position (This is just my personal preference, that hardcore startup life is not for me.)

- Aren't clear about OTE, or comp is very low compared to the industry standard

- Everyone else at the company knows each other outside of work/is related

If it sounds interesting there's no harm in checking it out. Just be honest about your situation.

try and find out asap what the company is and then do homework.
your network, glassdoor, RepVue, Bravado etc.. to get a feel if it's good or not.

also look at any Gartner, G2, Forrester etc reports about their space. Is it growing, is it crowded, where are they positioned compared to the competition?

Who went to college knowing they would get into sales?
