Gifts for colleagues

I'm an AE who fortunately had a nice year and have a few key people internally from the product, engineering and CS teams who were incredible all year in helping bring in some larger clients.

I don't think they are expecting it but I would like to share the love a bit since they totally deserve it.

is it overboard to spend a couple hundred bucks on a coworker? I don't want them to feel uncomfortable or feel that they need to reciprocate or treat me any differently because of this. I geniunely wouldn't have had the year I had without their help and it's . Curious what everyone's take is on this.

For context we are a 300 person startup that I was employee #11 and most of these ppl are folks that I've known from the start

Really depends on the situation but in this case I think it’s a very generous and kind idea.

I've done this before. Bought the engineer who supported me a gift certificate to a swanky local restaurant. Bought another one a really sweet longboard. Both gifts were appreciated.

I've been on the receiving end of an AE's largesse when I was a product specialist, and it was really, really nice.   Honestly, it was unexpected, but believe me, appreciated.

I've also done the same when I had an exceptionally good year, and I've always rewarded any designated BDR/SDR because those kids hustle.

You can always provide a gift and make sure they know how grateful you are for their contributions to your exceptional year.   It goes a long way, particularly when it's unexpected.

I get my SEs a gift card each year. If you’re gonna give a few hundred bucks worth, nothing beats cash in my opinion.

They will remember you forever and you'll only get more opportunities because of it. That's a kind and wonderful thing to do. Go for it.

always a good idea. if you can make it personal too that would even better.

cash and giftcards are good but if you know their hobbies and can get something there that would be really cool.

My team had bought AirPods for a manager that we liked so I don’t find it all that strange.
