Giving 2 weeks/ Resignation Question

Got a new role (all positives) and plan to give my 2 weeks but I have a question:

I hit my 1 year on May 3rd, which means 25% of my shares vest, and already have a planned vacation for May 9th - 15th. My new start date is May 31st, so wanted some time in between.

Question: Is it a dick move to give my 2-weeks on May 4th and then head on vacation, or should I wait until I get back on May 16th?

I'm not owed any commissions - got those paid today, so I'm not really worried about that.

I'd do it after vacation so you don't have to worry about sticking around to turn all of your shit in.

Either you tell them before vacation and get an even longer vacation, or you tell them after and play up a “I thought a lot about it while I was out” story. Either way they’ll lose you and it doesn’t really matter when since it sucks either way.

I think it makes better sense to do it after and play the "I thought about it" card.

Absolutely wait till May 4 to give your notice because they can/may fire you the day you give notice.

Don’t use up your vacation. Just give the 2 weeks and let them decide if they want you around to help with account transfer, etc.

Unless this is a really special company/relationship with your boss I don't see why you couldn't use your vacation time then give your two weeks when you come back. If you weren't performing, they'd toss you in the street. You have PTO, you used it, then gave proper notice. It's business, it happens. Do be prepared to be asked to leave immediately though.

Only reason I wouldn't do this is to not burn a bridge or if you think you'd be interested in boomerang-ing back one day

hmm it is a little bit of a dick move....if they would rely on you to transition deals and shit that would suck for them.......but if that doesnt bother you....then do it!

Also i would be prepared for them to let you go right away.....idk if that always happens but I see it enough in sales that you should be prepared.

The safest thing is to just not do anything from now until your vacation, put your 2 weeks in, cruise on into your new gig.

Do you work from home? because if they make you come to the office for 2 weeks that would blow

Yeah we work from home. I'm likely just going to do it after my vacay. We get unlimited PTO.

Totally up to you and you can't go wrong either way. I had a similar situation and decided to look at it as basically 4 weeks off.

Took my 2-week vacation and then gave my two weeks and just chilled after that and tied up whatever loose ends my company wanted but basically worked half days for 2 weeks

As far as you being worried about it being a dick move, just remember most companies wouldn't think twice about firing people regardless of where their life is at.

What makes you think they don't already know you're  leaving and taking a new role?  People talk, you drop clues, rumors fly.  If you're any good at what you do your boss would of had a talk with you to try to save you.  Take your vacation and come back and give notice.  Don't give a bullshit story on why you're leaving, tell the truth.  Don't burn a bridge.  You got away without having to get a "reference" from your current employer, but that company will be on your resume and someday a future employer will be asking for a reference from someone there.

You don’t owe anyone shit. If they wanted to get rid of you BET there wouldn’t be 2 weeks.

Wait. For all you know they decide the day of announcement is your last day. Enjoy time off and getting paid.

Either way you get the side eye. Just don't forget to copy all the data relating to your numbers and evidence of all you did sales wise. I recommend doing this now, and not waiting.
