Giving Notice to Your Employer

Is it an acceptable practice to provide your notice mid-week or do you usually wait until that Monday or Friday to do so?

When should you give your 2 week notice

If you were firing an employee, would you wait till Friday?

I've heard of companies doing this so there will be fewer "incidents."

Written 2 weeks, be transparent when they ask why, thank them for the opportunity and trust in bringing you on when initially hired.ย

It doesn't matter at all. Just get it done whenever is most beneficial to you.

I like doing it on Fridays so my last day is on a Friday, but it really doesn't matter.ย

I agree with other sentiments, do what's in your best interest.

On another note- curious what other people give have heard of? Is it still a standard 2 week? If you're not a higher up exec?

Any day. Make sure they pay out the 2 week period even if they let you go on the day of or before the 2 weeks are over. Some companies don't do this unless you put it in writing. (And it may be illegal depending on which state you're in and what type of employee you are.

Also, make sure you request to get paid out on your unused vacation time. Put everything in writing via email to your payroll/hr people

Why would you wait till a specific date? Is this a US thing? days start counting from your notice, it shouldn't matter

I'd do it when fits in for you in terms of starting a new role or needing time in-between etc. No need to do it on any other specific day, IMO

I havenโ€™t given this much thought ever. I do it earlier than later as long as I have an offer letter.ย

I'm going to physically mail the regional leader with a sympathy card saying "sorry for your loss"

and on the inside, it will say "it's me. My last day will be x"
