Glassdoor is much less trust worthy these days...

Based on the ratings farming my own company does, as well as, the boosting I see with my friends companies, the company rating is a joke. I know it's not ground breaking, but it's getting really old that every company is "best place to work" etc. I find the only way to really see what's going on there is to filter the reviews by recent and see which ones are the most comprehensive (good or bad) and try to look for trends. If you were going to try to determine your next career move, how would you determine the true state of the company you're considering?

I take Glassdoor with a big grain of salt. As you said, it's super easy for companies to post fake positive reviews. Any time I see an absolutely glowing review with nothing negative, I assume it's fake. You can LOVE your job but no company is perfect.ย

I'd rather find out about the company by talking to current employees, asking questions in the interview about the culture and interviewing my interviewer.

The last company I worked at was awful with Glassdoor. The company started having an awful culture so employees started leaving bad reviews. Every week I noticed after a bad review there would be at least 3 back to back 5 star reviews that were SUPER generic. You could tell they were from recruiters/HR type role lol I hate Glassdoor. Sometimes it can be really good though.ย

I recommend checking out RepVue. They're a game changer right now.ย

Never heard of RepVue, thanks for the heads up.

Not a problem. It also shows very accurate stats on base salaries, OTE, and percentage of reps hitting quota. If a company that you are looking for isn't on there you can make an inquiry and they try their best to get that data. Best of luck!

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
You're looking for the count of scorched earth reviews in a lot of cases. If there are a bunch of five stars and one stars, trust the one stars.

LinkedIn is your friend here. Use the search for former employees. Look at tenure of those who have left.

It certainly still has value, but RepVue is the spot for savages to get deeper insight.ย

I always like to reach out to former AE's/Reps etc before I make a move.ย

Check out repvue for sales job reviews/OTE attainment percentages. A lot of smaller companies arenโ€™t indexed yet but Iโ€™m selfishly always recommending it in hopes itโ€™ll become an even more valuable resourceย

Kind of like Amazon reviews... you have to really sift through them to find the right information but if you are willing to take the time then you can make pretty sound judgements. It's fairly obvious which ones are fluff and which ones are burned employees, just have to find that middle ground.ย

I tend to believe more of the burned side though. ๐Ÿ‘€

Great point and something to consider. I'll still check Glassdoor, but I think the best indicator is how you mesh with the leadership who interviews you. Often times even the true Glassdoor reviews are from employees who have gone on to other opportunities which means a lot could've changed since that employee reviewed them

You have to use it properly. Look for the bullshit. If you see a bunch of generic bullshit reviews, you can almost bet they're trying to overpower the negative ones.ย

Always try to find the ex employees, see how long they lasted. Anytime a company has huge turnover, especially in sales, big red flag.ย

I use it more as a reference and then bring it up in the interview and see how they react. You can usually tell when they suddenly are scrambling in their mind how to spin something.

Almost no company is a 5 star company, even good ones.ย  Glassdoor is one great signal to use when deciding which companies to seriously look at after some initial research.ย  Like you, I search by recent and take the time to thoroughly read through the reviews--it's not hard to tell the shills versus real ones.ย ย

I always reach out to ex reps on LinkedIN telling them I'm thinking of interviewing and asking for a quick chat about their experience if they can spare the time--even ice cold most reps will help one another out.

Talk to current reps as well, take the initiative and use Glassdoor as a good resource to balance your information as best you can

If Sales is a meritocracy and we all have the same expectation to produce, why is the so much talk about pay equity/inequality in sales? Shouldn't the meritocracy part be an equalizer?
