Got a 2nd round interview with a large CXM company

Had the phone interview and spoke to the partner director. We agreed on comp, next steps, and a POA.

They like me are offering a 50/50 split 100k base + OTE.

My dilemma is this, my current OTE isn't capped, but I'm just onboarding as a new AE and really want closing experience. This role is more so Partnerships management and their team is exceeding quota apparently( I asked). Will I be shooting myself in the foot by taking the gig with more cash and no closing experience? I currently have stock in my current company(Not sure if it's really worth anything), but I'd essentially be moving from a 200+ member org to a 2000+ member org.

I have no "loyalty" per se to my org, but I do have ISOPs and a close-knit team. We've been in a bit of a slump atm, but this large org is spearheading a partner manager role that I have pretty extensive experience on. I'd be closely working with AEs, but IDK if this is still technically a closing role or an AM role.

Any advice on this?

This post is all over the place. Trying to break it down.

You just started as an AE.
Now you're interviewing to be a partner manager at a new company?

Yup, got hit up by the recruiter for a partner manager role. I'm currently onboarding as a new AE though at my company. This new role isn't a "closing" role per se, more so as managing existing partners. But I would like to gain more closing experience, that's my dilemma.

Partner Managers don't close clients.ย  They set up the Sales team for success and help put deals together before the Sales team even shows up.ย  A good Partner Manager is talking about deals months/years before the Sales guy shows up.ย ย

For example - the Sales team wants to close X account?ย  Look at who else is selling into that account or wants to and your job is to open that door. So its a different type of Sale which involves selling (and closing!) the Partner on your company, not just your widget.ย  ย

Having a big name on your resume never hurts you in the long run either.

This is helpful, thank you! It's slightly different from the model my current company uses, but they mentioned I get a % of each closed deal and qualified opp. With a 50/50 split for 100k base, that's pretty solid IMO. I'm keeping an open mind since I have two more interview rounds to go, but if there's less closing stress, i might just consider it.

A former boss told me once if you wanna make money you have to go Corporate and join the bigger Companies. It sure made me more money and definitly increased the number of recruiters and quality offers...ย

I would be a bit careful with "backoffice" Jobs - not sure if you can find the money there if you are not at the salesfront

I'd say partnerships are a team that exists across the board, but AEs have closing experience, but I don't have very much of it. It depends on where I see myself going.

Partnerships have higher comp, seem to be an easier sell(Somewhat) given it's a lot of relationship building via multiple channels.ย  I do a good job giving the value prop for partnerships at my current org, but it's a startup and really all over the place in terms of comp and metrics, which change every two weeks. This has made it particularly difficult to make quotas over the past two months or so. Prior to that, I was hitting over 100% each month.ย

I've got extensive BDR experience and demoing experience and currently doing my AE onboarding, but this opportunity seems far more strategic than what I'm currently doing, so the upskilling is a pro I'm looking at, + the comp and opportunity to spearhead a partner team at a fairly large enterprise org. I've got no problem smiling and dialing, but that's not sustainable imo.
