Got a "promotion" that took away my base. Am I getting screwed?

My boss offered me a promotion but when we actually talked about it, they just took away my base and increased my split. My book of business is pretty small because I only started working there last year and I've been splitting my time between account management/paperwork and sales that whole time because I didn't know this kind of comp plan change was coming. Is this normal for starting out in sales or am I getting screwed?

Any position where you don't get a base is a scam. Yes, you're getting screwed

I second this! I would never work for a company and prefer commission only after just one year

I don't know about a scam, a raw deal maybe but there are people who have found financial success working for companies that pay commission only. They're rare as hell though.

A company that takes away someone's base is 100% trying to scam employees out of money.

I agree. I wouldn't feel comfortable working only for commissions, especially if when I took the role I had a base salary...

depends on what you want in terms of getting screwed, but i would never work without a base. is it a draw or a pure commission role?

Don't accept the promotion.  Or find a new job. That sounds shady as hell.

I don't think it's normal. I'd need a hell of a good reason to move to commission only.

Don't even try to renegotiate your base back. Spend gently and start looking for your next job. Once you find it, RUN.

The title indicated you're getting screwed. So did the details.

I was hired at a really good start up about 4 months ago for a SDR role that I was told I wouldn’t be in for very long. They’re gonna go public in the next year, but Zoom Info reached out to me about an Account exec position. Now I’m wondering if I should take the guaranteed route to AE or let my shares vest and get to AE at the place that took me. Usually I wouldn’t consider jumping so quickly, but AE is AE.
