Grass is looking greener, looking for a reality check

Hey savages

I'm in a bind with what next step to take in my career, or rather when.

Currently I'm in a senior role (exec but still selling as well) for a small SaaS company. I have a lot of flexibility to do what I want, but its global which puts a lot of pressure on out of time zone work requirements. I sell enough, the team does ok, but its a hard sell for a niche product with long sales cycles. Pay is great, culture is great, lots of pluses. I've been here for 3 years.

I've been approached to by a start up, series funded and with some big paging customers already, low risk, to do the exact same thing I've done in my current role (build the sales function for the SaaS business from scratch) but in just one country and there is massive equity plus a spicy pay increase.

It would be a no brainer BUT

The timing is really really disruptive to the sales team with lots of new starters, and the leadership team, both of which I am on. I was planning on making a shift like this next year or so, once this year's commitments are complete.

Would I be an asshole to leave now?

A thousand times this! As usual, 🦊 is on point.

Do what’s right for you and yours. Will it suck for the people you’ve hired in who are there because they wanted to report to you? Yeah, sure. Will the sun still rise tomorrow and somehow they’ll either survive or thrive? Yup.

I came to terms with reality after such an event.  I either give them the dice and let them decide my fate or I pick up the dice and bet on myself.  Always bet on yourself OP.  It's your life... you run it.

They'll forget your existence within 2 hours of your resignation. These things are way bigger in our heads than in reality. Also, what @CuriousFoxsaid.
