Gravy....laying off 95% of sales team?. Damn Sahil.

Fuck. 95% of the sales team????

Add them to the list I guess.

I do not know a lot about Gravy except I follow their CEO on Linked In.

Every time I see a post on LI about these lay offs I think of two things:

  1. Im glad I still have a job.
  2. Damn.....was @sahil right? have we hit the percentages he projected???

Also who is keeping that list??? Add Gravy to it!

Series A-B companies seem to be getting hit hard, but I still don't think we are anywhere near "20% of all sales reps losing their jobs". Probably around 5%.

Yep. Sahil was right. He warned in almost all his posts on Linkedin from 2-3 months back that this would happen.

95% is absolutely ridiculous though.

So I've never heard of them, and a simple Google search led me to recipes and nearby restaurants.

That just might be part of their problem, but what do I know?

As a fan of Kitchen Nightmares, I am flashing to the "Campaign for REAL GRAVY".

For me, loving the gravy on Yorkshire Pudding.   Mmmmmm.

never heard of them. any small startup is going to struggle as VC's tighten their belts and aren't willing to give out as much money. 95% is nuts but I'm not surprised to see see little companies fall.

I highly doubt we'll ever get close to 25% of all sales reps losing their jobs. think about how big sales is. That encompasses every industry, not just tech. Car sales, medical, home improvements, realtors, insurance, the list goes on. If 25% of all sales people lose their jobs the economy would have to be the worst the world has ever seen.

Sahil is a clown and I have yet to see him post something actually insightful/helpful. Everything he posts about and says is to drive traffic to this platform. Which is fair, he's the CEO and wants it to be successful. But pandering for clicks =/= wisdom.

He did call the layoffs though prior to them starting to happen. I found that pretty insightful.

What a stupid company concept. What actual percentage of customers "unintentionally churn" due to old card data or even virtual credit card usage? If you're churning due to bad card data, I'd be willing to bet it's due in part because you're using Privacy.com with a preloaded card balance... IE: it was intentional, a user did this to pilot the software and this company is just labeling it unintentional because the charge is labeled as "insufficient funds".

So many software companies exist in a bubble of self delusion with how big their possible market share could be, or if a need even exists for their product.

This is all to say that dumb companies with a half-baked fit like this one are absolutely going to be flushed.

There’s always corrections and it’s not just sales that get hit by layoffs. Usually sales is the most needed department because the company needs to sell product or they’re really fucked. It’s usually marketing reps and other departments that get hit first. Also if you’re not producing as a sales rep it’s likely you weren’t going to be there long with good times or bad.

I personally think it's very much industry specific the layoffs.  I know other industries which still are struggling to hire never mind fire.

Sales Manager for a Series B here.  No layoffs yet.  Caution from Finance to be mindful of expenditures and investments.  Still looking strong on my end. HIGHLY doubt it's going to be anything above 10%-15%.  Most of the tech companies had exponential growth during COVID and now that the pandemic is over... things are slowing down and now they're looking at budgets/resourcing for this next recession that's about to hit.

Usually sales is the last department to be let go, but this time around, it seems sales is being targeted pretty heavily with layoffs.
