Can someone explain to me how the fuck our biggest competitor, a massive data company, is a customer of ours utilizing a piece of our data and no one knew? No one knew that they were using our data to compete against our own data?

upon further review: this company is using a part of our data and has been **allegedly** using this data to compete with our product. this is a multi billion dollar data company so i have no clue why they’re even using us (they probably don’t have the government relations that we do). anyways, the current hypothesis is that they potentially signed on to our company in the very beginning of our time (>20 yrs ago) and may be back several legacy platforms. the issue is that the contract that they’ve been under (auto renewing) basically is a blank sheet of paper in terms of terms of use. there’s virtually no regulation to what they can and can’t use the data for. so they were “caught” because they reached out and are trying to get our proprietary data that we sell to insurance carriers to “pass along to their carriers” aka develop a product (allegedly).

no clue why this got passed to me for “growth” lmfao because i’m trying to shut this shit down. meeting with chief legal on monday to get his blessing to axe it. why the fuck are we helping a competitor in any capacity?

yep that’s what i’m trying to figure out. how the fuck does that happen. This is a huge company and even when my company started, it’s not like this multibillion dollar data company was just some small fry.

no one on my team was around back when this (probably) happened. it was so far back there’s no contract attached in SF, which means it’s on a whole separate server than what i even have access to at this point. essentially my company’s dark web
