Happy in prison of my own making!

lately , I have used this sentence way more that I usually would. "I like to be in the prison of my own making instead of the prison that the boss and the company has been putting me  in".

help me unpack this.
I am starting to think that all personalities can be divided on two sides of this line ( the people who resonate with this sentence and those who don't )

backdrop :
new boss relationship gone wrong, high performer in team last year , this year tanked due to nonsensical novice mgmt, every time I talk to boss I get thrown into Low energy zone.

I apologize, I didn't follow the analogy at all. To be honest, the backdrop didn't help much, except now it sounds like you went from a good year to a bad year, because you have a bad relationship with your manager.

"A prison of my own making" refers to consequences of your actions. Did you do something to put yourself in this situation?

Well, I believe we all control what and how we react to anything within our cells. Yes, you can have some unfortunate changes happen on any level, but unless that outside force is 100% hindering you and pulling all stops to hold you back, you have control of your outcome.

I can agree, to an extent. At least I can upgrade my own prison.

Seems like justification to be self-destructive when I read that sentence. However, I feel like you just have a bad relationship with your manager and it has a huge impact in morale. Which isnt being self-destructive

I would focus on what is causing the low energy zone. Hell have a super transparent conversation if you must with your manager.
