Has anyone gone from software engineering to tech sales? Or visa vera?

I am looking at a possible career change. I still want to be in sales but would love to go to some sort of bootcamp and get some coding under my belt. Has anyone in here made the career change from software engineering to tech sales? Or has anyone been in sales and became a sales engineer?

My end goal would be sales engineering. Would love to get into it but I am totally lost where to begin.

Thanks in advance!!

You can become a Sales Engineer without having to do some crazy bootcamp, but I definitely suggest Codecademy for their crash courses.

Best thing you can do is buddy up with an SE and learn their tricks of the trade.

I was looking for this as soon as I read the question. Seems like a logical progression.

I join scoping and have done some wireframing and it's pretty cool stuff.

There can be some good money in it is as well, I believe.

I've been curious about the coding camps myself. Didn't occur to me to ask about it in here. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

Iโ€™m in software tech and I feel that going to engineering might be a little harder but honestly not too bad with some training and practice it will just be like normal.

I know consultants who became sales engineers who became sales reps. Dont know any that went the opposite direction. Getting to sales is Definitely do-able, and if youre selling to IT, your customers will love your ability to wear the technical hat. Good starting point would be talking with some sales engieers and getting an idea of what they do. Try your hand at being an SE for a couple years, youll witness the highs and lows of your sales rep counterparts and from there youll have a great idea if you want to be compd 50/50 base/commission or if youre more comforTable with higher base and less variable. All the SEs turned reps who are also personal people have crushed it in my experience
