Has sales made you jaded towards $$$?

There are so many people that would be ecstatic to make $150k/year, yet that’s a down year for different sales roles. Sometimes I need to step back and calibrate priorities.

Hedonic treadmill my friend.

The more you get, the more you want. The more you want, the more you get.

It can be tough to get out of the mindset, but it’s important to focus on what really matters.

For a while, yes. But there are ways to make yourself appreciate it again.

As in appreciating money or appreciating that making 150k+ is in the top ~7% income in the US? Honestly curious about what you mean.

Yeah, I should've been clearer. I mean enjoy the money. I literally have a tracker of my earnings over the years to remind myself where I came from in the BDR days/my first couple years as an AE with a joke of a comp plan.

I also find that mapping out what you make/spend in a year can help a lot with this. When you're looking at your expenses and realizing you saved more than you used to make, it realllllly helps you stay positive about your income.

Thanks for the follow-up. I totally agree with you, sometimes it's easy to get desensitized to your current earnings (shoutout recency bias) but putting it into perspective is a helpful exercise. Curious if you use any specific apps or just something you made yourself?

I just have a few Google docs. I'm sure there's something similar to Mint that could help though.

Your username is phenomenal, by the way.

In a sense, it never feels like enough for the insane stress and pressure that can come along with it. The pride that comes along with being the tip of the spear helps but yeah, everyone has the bar set somewhere and from the outside looking in, maybe it can seem like the upside can be taken for granted.

I feel like we're always chasing this high ($, QR, Dashboard #) and it's never enough and we always crave more. Not sure jaded is the right word, but the high is certainly very short-lived.

Wouldn't say jaded, but have been definitely $$$ motivated. My first shrooms trip I figured out money, thought loop around "these pieces of paper with markings and these numbers only have value because we all collectively place value on them" Since then it's been a little different, but still all about it

pro tip: live like you make $50-60k a year. Put the rest away into investments and savings.

Most of us are susceptible to the "disease of more".

Another quote from the great Tim Dillon. "If you give people a million dollars, they'll spend two."
