Has your company implemented any mental health policies/initiatives since COVID-19 began?

Many companies have started implementing mental health awareness policies and initiatives due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. I am curious as to what your companies have done, and if you take advantage of these policies.

I have had friends in the industry who work for companies that have given every other Wednesday off, expanded their PTO options, implemented monthly mental health awareness training/days, etc...

Has your company implemented any mental health policies/initiatives?

We have hired several more marketing/comms people though. To keep spinning toxic positivity.ย

Sorry to hear that, we have not "officially" added anything company wide. I will say my company has been pretty good about if you need a day just to take care of yourself you can have that day. As long as you are still getting your work done of course!

I hear you. You know it's bad when the VP of HR gets the boot, followed by the next Sr. HR person.

This is after we lost 1/2 of all employees from COVID related shutdowns.ย

HR headcount aside from that hasn't changed... even with 1/2 the people to police.

But don't worry guys!

My company offers an EAP program, work from home was offered to anyone who wanted to. That's about it. I think it's suitable, I don't really expect my company to take care of my mental health.

I think you're Canadian. Mental health is a huge issue, especially arising from the workplace. It's good to know you're not expecting them to take care of your mental health, but there are probably a lot of your colleagues in need of help. Just for the sake of a conversation on this thread, how many people in your work have gotten a divorce/drunk driving/substance abuse/behavioral issues etc over the last 18 months? I bet a lot more than you'd think.ย ย

The BIGGEST stressors and triggers for breakdowns are financially related.
You know where that money comes from? Your job.

Your employer has a duty to make sure you're fit for work, and if you're not and it's their fault -> they are obligated to make it right. This is why substance abuse issues usually end with an employee getting packaged out, because you can prove a pattern of behaviour from job related stressors.ย
ย
TL;DR

Our EAP sucks.
Mental Health absolutely matters, and if your employer is worth anything, they should be doing more than the bare minimum to make sure their employees are well.ย

I'm well aware of the effect of COVID related lockdowns and restrictions on mental health, I think it's terrible what's gone on for the last year and a bit.ย

I think culture of your company plays a big part of how mental health is addressed. I work for a fairly small company where we're pretty close knit. We have frank and open conversations with management, they're very loose with personal days/taking a slack off day here and there as long as work gets done, plenty of time off given without question in the event of deaths/personal issues in employee's lives. On the other hand, I have worked at companies where you'd be reprimanded for taking a sick day if you weren't completely bedridden, and where the absolute minimum required by labour law number of days off were given to people who were grieving, so I see the other side of the coin as well.

What would you expect to see from an employer's standpoint?ย

I love this response. Sounds like you also have a good employer.ย

I think employers need to start training Senior Leaders/People Leaders on the signs of burnout, and disengagement. They all give it lip service, but when is the last time you were told to take a day off. To disconnect.ย

Last friday, I had enough, and asked my team to take the entire day off setting Out of office etc. There was/in nothing more important than taking time to be a person and not an employee.

I want more companies to stop following the textbook, and start following their humanity.

One day isn't going to sink a deal. One day isn't going to cause a company to stop producing.ย

We work to live. Not live to work.ย

This is a great topic. I'm interested to see what is out there.

Nothing new implemented here. They have recently encouraged us to take vacation days, so I guess that is something.
