Better question would be "has anyone not been ghosted by a recruiter?" lol

Just yesterday I had a recruiter message me on LI asking if I'd be interested in talking about a role. I asked him what the approximate OTE was so nobody's time is wasted and he hasn't gotten back to me...lol.

That's the first thing that should be disclosed, as you say, to not waste each other's time. Even worse, I've had recruiters reaching out without naming the company, and when I ask for which company it's for "I'm afraid that's not how we represent our client". Ok, I'm afraid you can stop wasting my time...

This is actually when it happens the most tbh. They'll just spray and pray at 100s of resumes based on job titles and when they get a response back that's when they decide to not actually do anything with it rather than looking at the resume before the initial message.

I don't ever have to touch those ass reqs anymore, but damn is it embarrassing having to reach out to someone knowing that the pay is cheeks. Think all recruiters, including the good ones, have been there before.

Yes. I even had a recruiter tell me someone else got the job (via cell) when I had driven an hour to conduct my third interview. Fantastic experience!

I had a recruiter reaching out about an opportunity that was very well paid, so I gave her a shot for a first chat. She was happy about me and said she'll set me up directly with the company in the next few days, and that I have to get prepared because it was going to be quite a  comprehensive interview.

A week later I received a call from her but couldn't take it as I was in a customer meeting. I called back, no answer. I pinged her in LinkedIn twice, no answer.

Literally 4 months later I got this..

"Hi,Sorry for the delay. The company are finally ready to start interviewing for the role you and I discussed. Let me know if you are still interested and available.Regards"

Sorry for the delay? 4 months, not sure if that's called a delay.

No, she did not receive a reply to that message..

I think that's absolutely unbelievable and extremely unprofessional.

Unfortunately this behavior is way too common.

Lol. Something that could have been prevented with a single email or LI message. "Hey, it looks like the role isn't open at the moment. Do you care if I followup when it is?"

And just like that you'll take the interview 4 months later

Lol I've been ghosted by recruiters as many times as prospects have. Generally, I find recruiters to be even more salesy than sales people.

Atleast a prospect will tell you to fuck off when the times comes, recruiters will just quiver away and ghost you and go MIA.

Recruiters ghosting you is never ok but a lot of them do it especially at larger companies. It means they're shit at their job.
EVERYONE deserves a yes or no from a human plus a bit of feedback (however tiny).

The one that chaps my ass is when I don't get the job and get ghosted when I ask for feedback as to why and how I can improve for future roles.

I gave you my time on multiple occasions least you could do is tell me why it was for naught.

Yes! During my last job hunt I reached out to someone that I'd worked with previously, and accepted a job offer with (you're welcome on the commission sir). My mind was blown bc it would've been the easiest placement he had ever made.

It’s normal. Recruiters are sales people. They only spend time on what gets them paid. If you’re not it, you’re not it. It’s stressful and cut throat.

I had a recruiter say she didn’t remember interviewing me a year prior, even though I was a referral by a current employee. Then she told me I didn’t seem very energetic after she was late to the interview, and said she would set something up with the hiring manager but never did. 🤘🏼

Was left cold calling/emailing a recruiter trying to speak to her about a job that I am qualified for and super interested in and got no response. Absolutely blown away considering I can't go a day without getting messaged five times about 'an amazing opportunity at a rapidly scaling business that is so different to everyone else'. Fuck her.

The same recruiter, ghosted me about the same position twice, 3 months apart. Granted, the 2nd time was for less time, and he did get me an interview. It took him so long to get back to me (nearly 2 weeks) including me emailing and asking for an update; by the time he did I had a 5th round, signed another offer and given notice. Shame for him, because I would’ve closed that role for sure.
