Have you ever contacted someone from the DNC and sh*t hitted the fan? (do not contact list)

My team just did and well...

Is it bad that I thought you were talking about the Democrat national convention but now realize itโ€™s the do not contact. Thatโ€™s a violation of GDPR and if they can prove it is liable for a lawsuitย

Yeahhhh. Sorry if that was harsh but if theyโ€™re on the DNC and contact them itโ€™s a real problem. Are your leads running short?ย

My team is pretty strict about it but if that prospect is the DM and everyone else in that organization keeps directing you to a DM on the DNC, then you're going to have to at least send a polite email or two acknowledging the opting out of comms, and trying to get some time on the calendar.... maybe a follow-up or two. In my experience, it hasn't gone wrong yet, and I have been able to get a few meetings with DNC prospects....overall is frowned upon where I am currently at.ย

On the other hand, if you really can't contact them at all and they are the DM find yourself a champion that can get that contact on board with your ability to alleviate their pain.ย

I'm on the DNC but people still call me...I am polite and tell them to stop calling. Unless they're trying to sell me a used car warranty or lower my Visa, Mastercard, or Discover rates to 0%...then I'm a full-on Kevin.

I live state side, accidentally called a guy at 11pm in the UK. He was not happy. Also i may have violated GDPR in doing so, still unsure on that one.ย

I think everybody in sales made this mistake. I once found a prospect that replied to a mail โ€œdonโ€™t send me any mails anymoreโ€, so we just started calling him.ย

I'm assuming you mean the do not contact list. Whenever I've called them, they don't seem to mind too much

Yeah. It wasnโ€™t pretty, the client got upset and had to spend a whole day manually deleting every contact from the list so it wouldnโ€™t happen again ๐Ÿ˜…

Back in the day of my company our SDR/BDR team had really bad tendencies to put prospects on a DNC list even if they said "Now is not a good time" we have had some fun conversations with people who really meant don't f*cking call but some of them have ended up buying sooooo... ring ring m'fers!ย

No such thing as a DNC list when it comes to b2b. So I'm not afraid of calling the accounts.ย

There is a thing such as B2B DNC = it's called opt out.ย  You can call if your 'business' is relevant (really, really) to the person's role. If not and your trying to worm your way into the org - you could run afoul of the regs - depending if the B2Ber is in a bad mood and has time to file a complaint.ย

I once emailed someone who had requested to opt-out, but the last guy didn't update the account in SalesForce. Cue a long email reply in which he listed out every Canadian statute I could possibly br breaking, with the accompanying fines (upwards of 14k) per email.

Some people take themselves very seriously. While I understand the frustration, it would have taken less time to mark me as spam and delete the email. So it goes.

I used to do door-to-door and purposely knocked on the ones with the โ€˜no solicitingโ€™ sign on it and pretended I didnโ€™t see them, always a fun time :)

Some. But rules of engagement made it not as viable if a strat since no records at times (led to some bullshit split deals)

Had the CEO of a company freak out on me after the first call. He spent weeks following up with our privacy team and ended up opening my original email 200+ times.

How's this for a "Sh!G hitting the fan" ?ย

When I was on the BDR team at said cybersecurity company, we had three BDRs: me (the god's gift to the company), Mr. I-suck-at-calling-but-rock-at-keeping-sfdc-PERFECT (lets call him X91) and Mr. How-tf-did-he-get-hired?ย

Anyway, we were switching from Tout (R.I.P.) to SalesLoft and a F100 CISO asked to never be contacted again after we emailed them 3times.ย

X91 opted him out in SFDC, Marketo, Tout and continued prospecting. He did not opt him out in newly adopted Salesloft and of course he somehow got sequenced into a 3x/week email, 2 Linkedin InMail, 5/week call cadence.ย

The next email X91 had ย was from this CISO and it simply just said "You'll be hearing from our legal team by the end of the week."ย

The CEO of the company and Corporate counsel got involved for weeks. X91 found a job at a different company and still to this day never uses salesloft due to this nightmare.ย
