Have you ever had a time when your role has been phased out? SHARE YOUR HORROR STORIES and HOW YOU BOUNCED BACK!

Thought this might be a good topic since I was told on Monday that my role at my company would be phased out, repurposed with some bullshit bells and whistles (in other words: a new name) and dressed with a new comp plan that is 10-15K Less in OTE.

I think its particularly fucked up because they told me this on Monday, and gave me 3 days to make a decision on what role i wanted to apply for: My old role with the new name and bullshit comp or two other roles that would both be lateral moves (Full Cycle SME Rep and some other shit that isn't worth writing about). It's frustrating as hell and I'm working not to be discouraged by all of this.

I am a Top Performer and quota smasher. I've been with my company for two years in the top 3 of SDRs in my department over the last two years in CBs and MRR. I've brought millions of dollars of revenue to the company in a short amount of time. At the end of the day, my value is not being considered which means its time to get the fuck out of here!

Looking for some guidance here!

What stories do you have of your role being phased out? What options did your company give you at that point? What did you do to get back on your feet?

That sounds like a gamble with odds stacked against you. I haven’t been in a similar situation, but if I were you, I’d totally start interviewing with other companies. I’m sure you’re gonna be an asset to anyone, go crush it.

This happened to me at the end of last fiscal. I declined the path they laid out for those of us impacted and began interviewing internally (and externally).  Ultimately, I landed a very similar role to the one I had, loved, and crushed, but I work in a different region.

Don't panic. Don't take it personally. That's easier said than done, but I had teammates do both. They aren't happy where they are now.

Dust off your resume, give yourself a little time to think about what you want, and put yourself out there! Easy for me to say being on the other side and very content, but this happened for a reason. There's a better role that you'll love more (and maybe make more from doing) out there.

Don't settle. Know your worth. Go get em!

Have had this happen to some extent - built an onboarding program that directly increased revenue and account tenure, and did so well within 90 days that they told me they were outsourcing it.

Just so happened that I had an opportunity in the pipeline - because I always say yes to recruiters reaching out to have a conversation.  But at the end of the day, it was just right place/right time.

Going off of what you're saying above - you shouldn't have any trouble finding some solid ground, but I agree with dondarko; start interviewing other places and make sure to put hard statistics on your resume.  Not "increased revenue" but "increased revenue by 20%" etc; which is sounds like you know ;)

Good luck!

So, most people I know did not plan on becoming a sales person initially, it just happened. So, curious to know how my fellow warriors here ended up in sales anyway ? The more interesting stories the better..!!
