Have you ever had to fire a client?

I had a client who had recently become more of a pain than the MRR was worth. Constant complaints and every solution we offered was met with contempt. The final straw was him telling his account manager to 'treat me like I'm your father', and going as far to say 'if you were my daughter, I'd be very disappointed in you'. Creepy shit, tbh.

There was room to grow the account so being in sales, part of me wanted to find the solution and keep them on board. Afterwards I couldn't help but wonder 'what could I have done differently?'. But after we told the account manager that she was not only no longer on the account, but that we've decided to fire them as a client, it was like the weight of the world was lifted off her shoulders.

In our organization, account managers work closely with sales and are crucial to our success. It's a stressful job with high turnover. In the end, I feel confident the right choice was made to value our people profits, and it will pay dividends in the long run.

Have any of you other savages had a similar situation?

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
My current employer does this when necessary. I've had a few friends fire clients for ethical reasons (inappropriate conduct, racist beliefs, etc).

I haven't had to in my current role. When I worked in recruiting we had a shit client who treated our contract employees like dirt, had unsafe labour practices going on, and were super tough to get ahold of and communicate with. I asked our manager to fire them and he wouldn't...we needed the business. Soon after I got a new job and got to leave. Now I'd refuse to work with a client like that.

Yep, I've had to fire 2 clients back when i was in the staffing world. I hated when clients treated contractors like dirt, so if it happened too often, i would not work with them and told them why. took money out of my own pocket but there are some dirtbag companies that treat people horribly, so i fired two of them.ย

I do it often and it's better for the business in the long run. If they are abusive.. fire them. If they won't cooperate with things like discovery.... fire them. It will save you time and money in the long run

We havenโ€™t but there was a few times we absolutely should. One company I think actually really fucked our growth for a bit because of how much they dominated our support resources and ruined a CSM. He got fired for being inept eventually but I think they account crushed him.ย
