Have you ever take a voluntary leave of absence?

Let’s say you’re burnt out as shit but actually want to stay with your company. Your entire team isn’t anywhere close to hitting an outrageous number. Nobody is picking up, no leads are coming in. Money not being an issue, have you ever considered taking a leave of absence NOT in between jobs/paternity type thing? Would you get fired for even asking?

Would you ever ask for a voluntary unpaid leave of absence

I think we should be able to, bottomline. I figure if you're looked at as an asset and you have decent management, you could get this going as long as you're honest about the burnout. I see more and more companies becoming sensitive to mental health overall. Call me optimistic, but let me know if you end up doing this though.

We are shamed from an early age to ask for basic needs.

I agree. Where I’m from, I still see so many people waiting for the boss to leave to leave office. People who come early and leave late are still celebrated as ‘hard workers’ while the folks who do their job normally and we’ll are shamed.

The only way I see this changing is by setting precedents. Doing things that most people would consider ‘too much to ask for’. Or at the least, start that conversation.

I think with Covid-19 and the mental
impact its having, there is broader awareness and empathy with employees needing a break because they are feeling burnt out.

Although working from home has its benefits, it also blurs the lines of separation between work and home and some are still trying to adjust...

Fingers crossed that this provokes greater support for mental health beyond the duration of the pandemic.

I maxed PTO and went on a 5-day unpaid leave. Dope vacation too.
