Have you (or a coworker) ever stolen anything of value from your company? Also if the company found out, how did they address it?

Love the anonymity here.

We had a coworker get let go, and then management proceeded to berate her about a non-returned laptop cord. Meanwhile another coworker got sued for doing a full salesforce pull of our database prior to leaving the company for a competitor. Personally the best I ever made away with was a bluetooth headset I pilfered from a previously fired coworkers desk.

Just curious if anyone has had a coworker (or have themselves) made off with a company laptop, gear, or anything worth while? Or had your company aggressively pursue an "unrecovered asset"?

Not necessarily an object, but had an old co-worker create and close fraudulent opportunities to hit accelerators. This was when we were pre-ipo so it was easier to get away with something like this. The day management found out is the only day I have ever heard HR literally scream at someone. He was more or less picked up by security and thrown out the door.

Unsure of the total $ they raked in or how that worked once they got caught but I am guessing it was a decent amount.

When WFH started I took a standing desk, over a year later and no one has said a word to me about it. That office location was dissolved too and all the furniture was sold so now the desk is permanently mine!

Just found this post after all these months - and I also know someone who pulled the SFDC db and was sued.    For the poster wondering how that could be, years ago, where I worked, we used to be able to create a report and pull our account data to create excel spreadsheets.  Most of us just used this to build out our account planning, as was our case at the time, there weren't a huge plethora of software plugins and browser-based tools for this, and we lived in excel and fileshare.

@FeelItInMyPlums I'm kinda wondering if we know the same people, TBH.   This would have also been my story, the rep who walked off with the contents of the db.  Grand Theft Database.

Had a coworker that worked a ton of west coast accounts (he was based in Texas). Essentially what they were doing was booking flights to LA (where he was supposed to go) save & turn in the receipt then book flights to places like Hawaii / Tulum / Bali etc. and would only owe the difference on the ticket. They were also taking food receipts etc and would scan them in with old but real receipts from his original destination and would be reimbursed accordingly. They were caught when the scan messed up and showed a diner in west texas mixed with a phone number/address in Hawaii. They were obviously fired and were able to see where this person traveled by their IP information when they VPN in. They had been doing this for over 2 years before they were caught and no one was the wiser.

When I was in high school and worked at costco, some kid was shorting his cash drawer every night. Costco let him do it until he hit $2500 and smacked him with a fat felony charge. He's out on parole now.

At my old company Because of covid we moved our old office, but we had like tons of conference swag we give out just sitting in boxes. We had been acquired so the 90 person office had 7 people coming in and everyone else got shipped to Australia and like 15 people WFH. So we had to figure out what to move to the new office or not.

The best one was a universal charger and usb charger, we had boxes and boxes of them so I took a few for my friends
