Having to go back to the office after 1 1/2 years remote

Curious if anyone else is dealing with the return to an office this year. My company sent everyone remote last year for the pandemic and is trying to force the majority of my sales dept. back to the office in Sept. Most of our reps, managers, VPs, etc. are all relocated out of state but the current guidance/rules only applies to individual AEs. Should this be a good enough reason to look for a new opportunity before being forced back?

They may change their tune, but I'd start looking for a backup plan on the chance they don't.

I feel this struggle and I'm in a similar boat. Hoping to get some more transparency from leadership on the policy but I've started to look around.ย

I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't view the company telling us they want us back in the office as grounds for leaving, assuming they give you a good rationale behind their decision.ย ย

I definitely would not have an issue with their decision but the rationale really isn't there in my opinion.. Our outside field sales team for strategic accounts are all full-time remote and the majority of our employees outside of our sales org are remote full time prior to everything. The only ones being required to return are our CSMs, Service Support, and SMB/Mid Size AEs without setting the same standard for our senior leadership we report to. I don't really want to leave (been with the company for 4 years) but I feel like this is a significant indicator that our executives don't truly value the needs of employees here and are making blanket rules without reason and it might warrant the change..

i would immediately look elsewhere. we went perm remote and i'm moving out of state. i would never consider going back to the office. they should give you an option, not force you back in the office. i've never thought sales should be an office job.

Depends on the job, ive done both it seems unnecessary to force going back but if the product and job is fulfilling keep it

depends on how much you care about being in office. Personally I like going in. I try to 2-3 days a week. But I know not everyone feels the same. If you don't want to be in office communicate that with your manager. If he says too bad get over it, start looking elsewhere.ย
