Help me to deal with Rev ops

New in my company, we use sales force, but Rev ops limited my ability to access any info about any other accounts aside of mine.

Asked my boss and was told that it's non negotiable, I can't ask to get any data about past info ( lost/ churned) accounts.

Was told to ignore the past and focus on the future, if I need to talk about clients, can talk to CSM team.

Am I crazy to be very ticked off about this?

Hello--RevOps leader here (sales ops, customer ops, marketing ops all fall under my umbrella). There is likely a good reason for your limitations: reps have fucked with other rep's pipelines in the past, and to kill the problem, your admin shut off your views into anything you don't own. Is it an elegant solution to a human problem? No, but it is clearly working.

I'd start to form relationships with other reps and ask them questions about the accounts you are trying to learn about. Let them fill you in on the details you need, and in doing so you're going to avoid the rabbit holes of digging too deeply into an account. Also, CSMs want love from salespeople, give them some and they'll be your best friends.

To punish all for badpast behavior is simply put - not great! Train and trust maybe a bit easier and productive 😉

Take off the blinders from a wild horse that's been held back for years and see what happens.

Fine, have the blinders on your expensive stallion and get limited production out of it

Now that I've read the context as to why you are having trouble, I can tell something wasn't done properly. So what you're saying is that you can't see ANY past history on accounts YOU own from previous reps that worked them? Now that is an oversight by the RevOps team.

The point is, I will make it work eventually, but it will take longer than it could haveThe sales data exists for many reasons  and among them to help sales teams too, no?

Ok quick one: why do you need access to accounts that are not yours? Just asking!

Cause I am new and I can't access the old accounts that were someone else's and now are mine, no history, no visibility on what happened. What if they were almost sold, but it was a crappy process or they told him to fuck off and now I am going into the lion's den unknowingly ? (I would still call them on, but wouldn't be nice to be aware of that?)

Thank you for the context, it helps! I think there might a few gaps here. If these accounts are assigned to you, then they are your accounts, hence you could claim you need that information if your plan is to sell into those accounts. There shouldn't be a conflict if no other rep is touching them.

Quick fix here in case that approach is not possible (that seems to be the case anyway): can you request a report that shows exactly what they bought in the past at least, last time they did and so on? If they won't let you access the records themselves maybe they can at least export some of that.

@poweredbycaffeine gave you some solid advice there as well, a CSM can be a hell of an ally here!

I’ve found this to be a bit of a red flag in the past - what might they be hiding?

Most public companies don't allow you to see anything in your CRM except your own clients

Not public, and why the hell not to see past activities? This is what data capture is by definition, no?
