Help with hiring

Savages.

First, a disclaimer - I am not trying to recruit.

I've had a posting for an open BDR role for about a month now and have only had a single interview. I've posted the role on LinkedIn, Workable, Indeed and even Monster (ew). I am at my wits end on why we can't find qualified candidates or why even under-qualified candidates aren't applying.

Any advice or recommendations or what has worked for you would be greatly appreciated!

I'd start trying to find SDR/BDR related places. Is there a newsletter for SDRs? An online forum? A slack group? Also, rewrite your job description, so many of them are so boring

There is a newsletter but honestly, we aren't paying what some of the Bay Area companies are paying so it's hard to compete.

We rewrote the job description for this round of hiring because we had some rough hires in the past couple of years but I'll definitely dig into some other places to market.

Depends on a few factors. Where is the role located? Have you made the compensation known? Is your company brand well known?

We are in NorCal, but more of a rural area and most likely would want people in office (upper management's decision) and we are well known in our industry but not outside of our market. So we are pretty limited to local hires which is not a great talent pool.

hmm, well the only solution that comes to mind is upper management budges on the in-office piece and is willing to hire remotely. It could also mean a lower cost of living and thus lower cost to the business for salary

The market is WHITE HOT right now, and the big players are willing to pay 2019 AE bases for BDR talent. I cant' get an SDR to stay on the phone after they hear we're paying 2/3 of what they could get at SFDC.

Yeah that's pretty much what I am running into as well. We are even getting BDRs closing experience but no one is biting. Its been super frustrating, but good luck to you!

Three key criteria you ought to be looking for:

-chill:pull ratio
-did they play a sport in high school (Junior Varsity will suffice)
-can they successfully sell you a pen

But for real, your best bet is to find someone who can refer a good candidate since the channels you mentioned are pretty hit or miss and anyone can make themselves look qualified on paper

@paddy You always know just what to say. Thanks for the reminder about the pen!

I'll definitely be asking around with some of my old BDR pals!

Ask yourself why would I want to work here? Is that in the job description?

are there any specifics in the description that could seem like a red flag?

Where are your competitors hiring?
