Helping a top performer transition in to SaaS

A close friend of mine is looking to transfer from the mortgage industry into Saas, and I'm looking to help him get his foot in the door.

He's been a top performer at his brokerage for the past 5 years helping high net worth individuals secure their loans and land their dream homes in FL.

I'm trying to help and where better than tapping into the Bravado network to see who's companies may be hiring.

Are there any companies or hiring managers out there who would be open to non-saas candidates looking at AE and ISR roles?

If he’s doing so well, why change?

Honestly I would see a “top performer from the mortgage industry“ and think this guy just rode the wave of easy money and low interest rates. Now he wants to bail when new mortgages are down 15%(ish). Where’s the grit? Will he bail on us when it gets tough here as well?

There's definitely some truth to this.

Also, they'll be moving from B2C to B2B, I'd assume.

This is a solid point and one many hiring managers could ask.

But you could make the same point about a IC who excelled at a tech company over the past few years. They did great when the market was hot, but now that the market is in a downturn many IC’s may be looking for a new company.

As a hiring manager would you have the same assumption?

Valid. I know many “top performers” who have been able to ride a 1-3 year wave of top performance thru several years of mediocre performance. So don’t let that insight stop him from applying.

Focus on the soft skills of selling rather than the industry specific hard skills.

lots of people sell into the mortgage industry (CRM, FinTech, Marketing) etc. look into those firms and lean on his industry expertise.

I am making the switch into tech and the number one piece of feedback I got with rejections (dozens of them) was "you don't have industry experience."

Make sure on their resume that they are highlighting sales numbers and achievements. Proving they can close big deals, no matter where, opens a lot of doors and helps mitigate the "industry experience" line.

Bravado Academy gave me a lot of insight as to the specific items to prepare for in tech interviews and helped me prepare for those with greater focus.
