It has nothing to do with being "friends", I am friends with a lot of people I work with (Sales and Marketing).  At the end of the day, there will always be a disconnect, because sales ALWAYS has the revenue tied to them and marketing always feels like second place.

The friends thing is the least valid point I have ever seen. Marketing doesn't have a revenue number tied to them usually. they have MQLs and pipeline numbers and maybe they have a slight incentive for x achievement but sales is the one that is at the front lines for blame or glory and it will likely always be that way

I mean the friends thing is lame, but I am in on the sentiment.

I sell into the ops and marketing suites and more and more they are being KPI'd on Pipeline generation and more mature orgs on revenue, which gets everyone aligned. Rarely does anyone really ultimately care about MQL's anymore.

Sure you want to track MQL's and all that crap, but at least where I am at the entire GTM team is tied to revenue, and everyone takes a hit if #'s aren't met, and it has made for a much better working relationship.
