Base salary is guaranteed so I tend to put more weight into that.
True, but a higher base typically has a higher quota.ย Would you not want to hit accelerators sooner?
Having seen ridiculous quota increases (my quota increased 100% over 2 years while the sales team tripled and this was not a new company or technology), high base means a lot. When quotas become insane, you basically know you're getting one massive deal or you're fucked.
Depends, generally I'd say higher base salary, especially if we're talking about an enterprise role with long sales cycles. But if it's a high velocity selling motion with good accelerators, that could be really attractive despite the lower salary.ย

I'd rather have a higher base because you can plan your life around that. If you have an off quarter, much easier to take that blow knowing you have a higher base. Otherwise the bad quarter is magnified and it can spiral very easily. You get in a rut and it can be crippling.
