Higher Base with vaporware product or Lower Base with a killer product

Currently with a company that pays a high base but the product is all smoke and mirrors at this point. Was recently offered a job with a $15k reduction in base but with an amazing product and killer comp plan.

Looking for input on which way you'd go?

I'd try to negotiate and get the base matched so that's a clear win if the comp is better than the other. Also, how long you been with this company?

@Donniedarkoย That's a good point. I've been with the current company 7 months in total but the product has been released for over a year now.

product over vaporware all day.. how much is the average deal and what would you make on it? how many do you need to sell to overcome the gap?

@ouroborusย Average deal size would be $5000 in MRR and I'd see 10% of that. Doing about 6-8 per month on the lowend $3,000 per month in commission so roughly five months to break even from the base difference.ย  ย

I'd go the way of the better product 100%. Assuming you'd be taking a leadership role (based off current title) your team will be more consistent and after a track record of success (good product helps a lot with this) you'll be in a spot to negotiate past the initial pay discrepancy
