Hot girl summer trend is to quit your job

I noticed a lot of people on here are leaving their jobs (including myself). Here's an interesting read on why many Americans are leaving their job. It's related to leveling up and having confidence that you can do better vs. pessimism or laziness. Very relatable to my experience.

Is the workplace undergoing a revolution—or just a post-pandemic spasm?

99% of companies do not give a crap about you. They care about the money you make them and if they think someone can do better than what you do they will choose that person over you. Why would you not treat your career the same way?

Same. Once Im paid up on my student debt and have a nest egg I plan to take a few month hiatus and maybe ride my motorcycle across the US and fuck around before getting back to the grind.

No idea how people could think that quitting is laziness. To me, it’s totally the opposite, it takes courage to quit and find a new ship.

Next company I go to, I'm def going to take a month off in between jobs. I've tried to do that in the past and timing has never worked. Can't begin to imagine what it feels like to not update salesforce notes for a while month...

This is the most important moment in workforce history since Henry Ford created the 40 hour work week...the companies that force the toothpaste back in the tube and demand to go back to "normal" will see a lot of people leaving.

Thank goodness for this. However in many other countries, they have a 35 hour work week. 1/2 day Friday's and lots of vacations. I think America is #3 in the world with longest work week?

Yeah in the states you guys get 0 holidays right? In the uk the minimum is 28 days but in some countries like Afghanistan it’s 45+

Take what you will from that

Interesting read - and I also quit this May! For me it was that ever burning feeling of needing to venture out and build something that's mine. Something that I can look back at in 20 years and say dang, that's pretty sweet.

And yea, it takes a lot of confidence and it is hard - but already worth it!

I also think in the last year many people have stayed put because of the pandemic, so there is a bit of a backlog in terms of attrition.
However, it's been a slog.
Some want a break, some want to change it up and some just think grass will be greener on the other side

The grass is greener where you water it. BUT changing it up is a valid reason to find a new garden.

But were in sales! There is always another opportunity. I quit my job at Tesla in 2019 with no job lined up after. Traveled around europe for 3 months. Best decision of my life. I was able to find a job right away. My BF took about 2 extra months to find something, but he was being picky.

Yes I saw this on LinkedIn as well. Makes sense considering the fact that people last year wanted to make sure they were employed during a weird time.

I'd be interested to see the percentage of people who are moving on based on the experience they had working during the pandemic.

Right? Like, some firms really adapted quickly and others were consistently pushing the pressure downstream to their employees. When that didn’t work, there was no upper management reorganization to fix the issue.

Exactly, and then I'm sure they're the same companies that are making it harder than it needs to be in order to go back to the office

The Atlantic continues to put out fantastic content. Nice post! I, too, am sick of hearing that people are “lazy” and that there is a labor shortage because of “stimulus checks”. GTFO. There’s a labor shortage because we’re sick of being treated like crap and paid worse.

I think a lot of people hired mid-COVID were desperate probably and will leave those roles quickly. I took a role in COVID and just left and I was underpaid for my experience, selling to a market I wasn’t passionate about, and took it because I have two kids.

The grass is usually not greener…..and a lot of sellers who are jumping into “new yards” will figure this out the hard way. 2022 isn’t 2021, and things aren’t trending up and to the right……
