How and when do you take holidays while carrying quota?

Would like to hear everyone's opinion for this subject.

Many times I have planned for vacations and end up working at my destination to hit my targets, this has worked for me well as I feel inspired by my surroundings and work less hard on those days, but looking back, I have not taken much time off for the past 4 years. I feel good, but I don't expect this work for me once I start a family.

I feel you king. It's hard to disconnect. 
You need to have a conversation with your mgmt team regarding expectations while you're away. 

I read a thread on here (can't remember which one) and it was SOLID advice. I'll paraphrase from what I remember, and if they respond I will credit them :D 

Delete Outlook/Mail whatever from your phone when you leave. Don't install it until you get home. 
Give ONE person your contact details while you're away(keep it as your partners number or something) so you can ignore all the other calls on your regular phone. This is so you know shit hits the fan if they call you. 

I like this strat, and I always, always, find myself just responding to a quick email here and there, or replying to a text, or having a quick phone call.

Just like a prospect, manage your mgmt teams expectations while you're gone. A 1-2 week break shouldn't break your quota or get you on PIP especially if it's earned time off or comp time.

At my company, I hear vacation gets easier to to plan as you move up-segment with longer deal cycles. I'm in SMB where you have 1-7 day deal cycles. A vacation really screws up my number.
