How annoyed should I be?

Completed a four part interview process, last part was an hour long presentation that I spent quite a bit of time preparing for. Completed this step on Friday. I received extremely positive feedback during the presentation and walked away from that conversation thinking "nailed it".

This morning I wake up to a TEXT MESSAGE from a third party recruiter that set this opportunity up saying..... "Bad news. :( They passed on you!!! They said you were okay but not the Best!!!"

Punctuation aside, what the fuck?

I'm bummed out.

Where did you find this recruiter, the side of the road? How pathetic is that feedback? I'd be super tempted to text back "Wow, thank you for the comprehensive feedback! :) :) :) :) :)" and never take their calls again but I'm in a fuckin mood today. My mature brain is gonna tell you to just ignore that recruiter forever and move on.

It's possible the company really liked you, but liked someone else better which is totally fair, but you deserve better feedback than that especially after four interviews. Honestly, you could try reaching out directly to your main contact from the company with something like:

"Hi contact, I received word from (useless recruiter) today that (company) has decided to pass on me as a candidate. I respect the decision, but I received very limited and borderline unprofessional feedback from the recruiter. I'm just wondering if you'd be willing to lend some insight as to why I wasn't successful in my candidacy?"

I don't normally advocate for pushing for feedback from hiring managers because it often doesn't lead anywhere, but this recruiter deserves to be outed. It's possible the company is also unprofessional and won't give a fuck, but it's also possible they passed on something legitimate to the recruiter who was too lazy or dense to pass it on to you. You don't have anything to lose at this point.

1) Recruiter needs to chill on the punctuation
2) Reach out directly, regardless of what the recruiter says. I just got burned like this a month back after 7 rounds and a working session. I demanded better answers, and while I still didn't get them, I was more satisfied that I tried to get to the bottom of it.

Yes it's annoying AF. Reach out directly for a follow up.

Can you reach out to the people you interviewed for for feedback?

Would kind of eliminate the 3rd party recruiter…..
Honestly I get weary of any company utilizing outside recruiting

I'd be annoyed, but then ask for direct feedback from the interviewers/hiring managers.

And I'd not work with that guy again.  If you aren't as annoyed as I would be, I'd let him know his text was not cool.

@Sunbunny31 Have you ever really gotten the truth? I’ve asked direct tons of times and always gotten a spin/runaround - always.

Well, I haven't been interviewing in years outside of internal stuff at my previous employer which was annoying af, but I always got a "straight" answer, even if it was bs.  Always just enough to make sure that they didn't run into trouble with HR for exposing an age/gender bias...but still.

I mean, you're probably going to get "we thought you were a solid candidate, but the person we pursued edged you out because ..." which just means you have to keep at it.

Id be pretty narked off tbh (british word warning).  but i would be more pissed at the recruiter tbh.  They are clearly 12 years old.

Annoyed as heck at the recruiter. But I would really push for some actual feedback.

If you really don't get any, I'd go ahead and assume it was something shitty like they already picked an internal candidate but still posted the job and interviewed for it.

It sucks but I’d reach out for feedback and ask what they felt didn’t mesh. Aside from that don’t let it get to you.

When a lead answers the phone for the first time in history only to scream at me to stop calling my first reaction is to laugh really loud. I don't even think about it.
