We get attainment rather than booking quota on their first month billed and also another month down the line too, which usually means you get some nice upsell down the track, so although you can only see bookings in salesforce, your quota is actually measured on attainment inc upsell 🕵️😂

Can you elaborate, @sales101 ? Tell me like I’m a 5 year old, please?

Basically you have a quota- say $1000 per month.
In your customers first month of billing they bill at $500 you're at 50% attainment. However if you have a customer you closed 6 months ago upsell an extra $200, you actually finish on $700 or 70%- does that make more sense?

Interesting. This makes sense. I’m trying to also understand here. The quota metric itself is still revenue? But how does that seem fair if you’re not a 100% in control of how much revenue is going to come in if you charge on the basis of usage? Is that clear or do you want me to elaborate?

You book the first month based on what you think the bill will be, and it is almost ALWAYS more in usage- there’s also minimum monthly commitments the customer can sign for (at a slightly discounted rate) which means you generally know it will be at least X
But you’re never in control 😂

Haha, gotcha! I was secretly hoping there’s gotta be some way it’s a 100% fair quota for both the rep and the company. Would you suggest this is the best way to set quota if given a choice or do you have a better idea?

It’s not bad, could definitely have some improvements but I don’t have a good one size fits all solution unfortunately

Interesting. How does each of these weigh in your quota specifically?

Kyle Poyar at OpenView has a lot of posted articles about usage based pricing models. Maybe not specifically quota/comp but should help give you overall more insight into the business model

Work for a fully remote company 1300+ employees. We followed a wiki for our onboarding, it was..quiet to say the least. Exceptionally self-paced.

I've been thinking about how difficult the current climate must be for SDRs and SDR leaders a lot lately. There were many days that the collaborative nature of the pit kept me going, and I can't imagine not having that.
