How are you building multiple streams of income?

BDR here. Just graduated college. I put some money aside into savings, investments and funds (like for travel) but I want to try and build another stream of revenue on the weekends. Does anyone here have a side hustle that is still lucrative in 2022 just to diversify my income streams.... I was thinking about writing, selling photography or something creative like that... just wondering what other salespeople are up to.

yes, saving up for real estate too.

I value my time too much to have a part time side hustle. I poured all my energy into my single job and family. That said, putting money aside and investing in real estate isn’t a bad thing. Advice: don’t let the pursuit of money be the only thing that matters. I see too many older almost retired men constantly bragging about their possessions and acquisitions to other older men - after their divorces and having nothing else of interest to talk about. Most are alone, too. So make sure you take time to enjoy what you are working for. :)

Preach! The old way of grinding for 30ish years until retiring and THEN trying to enjoy life is so yesterday. Get that money obviously, but don’t forget to travel and make stupid mistakes and all the other things.

Yeah, absolutely. I've made my commitment to travel at least twice a year. I just have more time on my hands than I would like. And would like to do something with it.

Crap, forgot to add: photography, if you enjoy it, can be an excellent outlet. I know many sales pros who are great photographers and I think it helps ground them.

Good point. I do make time for my girlfriend and friends. But I honestly feel like I could be doing more. I kind of need more work otherwise I get bored. And I don't have the money yet to be traveling or having some amazing experiences. Building up my emergency fund and real estate budget so that I can have that freedom.

Understood! When I was starting out, I still made time to travel, but it was smaller things/places. National or State Parks, etc., for example, which are still extremely awesome but don’t need to carry the price tag of a flight and exotic destination. And I completely understand the energy and need to stay busy. Honestly, cultivating a talent or skill, even if it doesn’t bring in a stream of income, is also a great idea. Someday in the distant future, you’ll want to retire, and you will want to have something meaningful to do - and a hobby or two will be vital. You seem to have a good self understanding, so I suspect you’ll find something you enjoy while you build up that savings.

Finding something you are passionate about, is the best way to start. But tbh a big focus is doing well in your first role out of college since this is a time where doing well can really separate yourself for an early promoting to AE

I’m also the COO of a health tech start up, great side gig and could move into it full time after some serious funding.

The hardest part of this is patience. I have had a side business for a long time and invest in real estate. Both don’t give me a ton of money up front but offer long term additional streams of income that inch up year over year. Real estate is my favorite but requires tons of patience and long term thinking. What are you passionate to do and what kind of side business would you want to start ?

I'm investing in real estate on the side. Goal is to build long term cash flow to be "work optional" in 5-7 years.

Make sure you enjoy your day job and give it your all, but I have been let go 2x in my career unexpectedly. Was very thankful I have ancillary streams of income.

Word to what Bunny said - money should not be the goal, more so the way to achieve something higher. Money's the outcome after you finally find what makes you whole.

Simple. I don't.

As always, I think @Sunbunny31summed up my thoughts really well. I'm focusing on family. I'm a young father (28) with an 18 month old daughter and a son in the oven (due in March). I'm not trading my time with them and my wife for anything.

Like others have said, I devote my remaining time to the family. That said, I keep a close eye on our financial standing and invest as much as we can.

There are ways to do some side hustles that require a bit of work; dropshipping, etc. If you are creative you can sell your art/photography through a Red Bubble or Society 6 where they give you a cut and they put your art and random stuff like pillows, coffee mugs, shirts, phone cases, etc. Another option, if you have some cash, is a dividend portfolio. I put a dividend portfolio together that roughly kicks off 6.15% a year. I just try to keep adding to it and I have the dividends reinvest but I can switch it to pay me monthly if I wanted to. It just doesn't have enough capital in it yet for it to be worth it to pay myself instead of reinvesting.
