I kept trusting the process and showing my boss that Iโ€™m giving 100%. If MJ and Tiger can fail then you better believe Iโ€™m capable of failing as well.ย

Best advice ever. Trust the process. There are ups and downs in the process and everybody goes through it. Just keep on pushing

Can't learn without failure. A little whining with wine helps, too, but then you evaluate your process and make necessary adjustments and trust in you.

It is, but ironically the better I get at detaching my worth from the calls the less nervous I become which in turn results in way more success.

You gotta show them you are working at it, building rapport with prospects, filling the pipeline and getting prepped for when everyone starts to move into buy-mode.

We have LONG sales cycles (12+ months avg) so making sure the boss knows what I'm working on and aligning long-term goals makes it easier to walk around without looking over my shoulder.

Emotionally is harder, you have to know you are doing the right thing, working at 100% (both effort and efficiency) and trust your process. Spend some time studying sales gurus (good ones, not hacks!) and that should validate that you are doing all you can. If not, change your process up and see if that works.

Wow!! can't imagine working on a sale for 12 months and then coming back empty handed.

It'll feel like an year wasted!

Yes, one big sale could be.ย In 2020 I closed a deal worth $7.25m, this year I've closed 2x $6m+ deals with the same customer.

Its all about economy of effort.

Important not to compare yourself to others who may have had a better month than you. Stuff happens, pick it back up and crush it the next monthย

Take in that feeling and let it fuel your activity to right the ship. If you take it as a motivating moment to never let it happen again then it will fuel you...but if you let it get you down then you will spiral out of that job.

Taking the emotion out of sales is a big thing. Think about the laser focus from pitchers throwing no-hitters. They don't hear the fans or the bullshit. You need to treat your sales the same way. And if your deal/month goes poorly, it's time to face the next batter.

Going through one right now...

Definitely stressful and has led to some sleepless nights and a general feeling of anxiety. I've been successful in my role for a while, so I don't have the added anxiety of potentially losing my job, but it can be difficult to cope when you have become accustomed to performing at a high level.

I continue to work hard and do what has been successful, and focus on the small positives as they happen. Helps keep me from going insane. Also taking a day off here and there just to decompress can be very helpful to get the fire back and center yourself.ย

Most of my sales gigs have always had long cycles. You sell nothing for 3 months then sales start happening, and a year later you're so busy, you couldn't make cold calls if you tried. You just have to get to know everyone, be friendly not pushy, and stuff will happen eventually. Any good boss will see that.

Emotions - need to learn to stay level. That also means not getting to high on the big months. You're never as good as your good months or as bad as your down months.

Boss - gotta constantly be managing up. Keep em in the loop. Activity can cushion a dry spell.

As long as you are building for the future you are moving forward.ย  I try not to let it get me down, which comes easier because I also have a really long sales cycle and sometimes deals fall through through no fault of my own, gotta let that shit go and keep moving forward.ย

Love to read the advice here.ย

Look on the bright side, all the additional time you had to prospect is going to set your next 6 months up well. Hopefully you get multipliers for hitting above 100% in those months and you make up the commission and then some.ย

The absolute best will fail and that is what makes them great. Take the lumps dust your shoulders off and keep plugging away trusting and knowing you are doing the right things to get where you want to get.ย

1) New sales cures all. Always have more prospects than you have time to call to keep you focused on new and positive opportunities. It's easy to freak out if you only have a few opportunities and none of them go your way.ย

2) As others have said, keep your emotions in check. Nothing is personal but your managers will see you differently if you are busting your a$$, always have a plan, and maintain a positive attitude. I've kept reps around even when they are struggling because I see that their hustle and passion is still there. For those reps, usually the lightbulb turns out.

3) Find something outside of work to help you reset. Fitness, meditation, insert any random hobby.ย

4) Be self reflective too. Why are you struggling? Is it because you need more development? Are you truly putting in the effort? Are outside forces impacting your work? Is this something within your control? Etc.ย
