๐Ÿคก How do I tell my boss he SUCKS.... nicely ๐Ÿคก

I need help yall. My boss legit NEVER does anything to help me. He is just a micro-managing check-in machine. Brings ZERO value to my career advancement and I think he could be a big reason why I won't be able to move up in the company.

Am I supposed to go above him... could end up making my life even more miserable... I feel stuck

You hit goal in Q3 by 212%. I don't think he's gonna be able to be uprooted bc he can say his style is causing you to hit 212% to goal each quarter.

What are your career goals? Let's start there.

Grizzy hit it on the head pretty well.ย

Your numbers are a pretty good proof point for him even if he munches on the booty.ย

Have you had a conversation with him about his management style? I.e saying you prefer to be micromanaged less

I got some serious jamais vu the first time I saw that word. I was illusioned that I had never heard it before. Fortunately, my ego is quite corrigible when it comes to languages and I find the term wieldy and somewhat couth.

Did I just google a list of uncommon antonyms? Yes. I found a kempt list of ruly words that are now part of my pervious lexicon.ย

Keep your head down and perform despite his bullshit. That's the best way to show leadership that you're capable of more: perform at your current level and with your current challenges.

Chances are if you notice it, someone above your manager does, too.

Might want to avoid that as no matter how good/bad ass he is, you might need his help when you change the org.

Focus on your work, bring things that can help you during 1-on-1, try to understand what's in his mind and why he thinks that's gonna help you and blah blah blah.

Bottom line - hit the goal

Sounds like a lot of sales managers. These days it seems like the only qualification for that job is the ability to spout the words "have you updated your pipeline yet" at an annoyingly frequent rate.

My advice just tell him you feel a bit suffocated, remind him how well you did in Q3 and that he doesn't need to worry about you to the point of checking in constantly.

If you ask me, reasons for leaving a company would be:
1. Lack of mentoring
2. Lack of career advancement inside the company

If your boss is guilty of not helping you with the above, you can either hope their boss also notices what you describe, or just start looking..

โ€œHi CRO, I realize you have about 65,500 other things going on. Iโ€™m bringing this to your attention as itโ€™s not just me he is affecting and I want to do this for the good of the companyโ€ explain the facts and facts only and let them do with it what they will. Clearly he isnโ€™t changing.ย

I like to question them on everything that I don't agree with/understand to understand where they're coming from. Most of the time we don't get on with managers because we have different styles of living and we don't understand why the other person is doing what they're doing so it winds us up. E.g. if they ask you to do A, but you don't really agree with A, ask them why are they asking you to do A. Or, question why they feel the need to check-in all the time. Etc.

This could piss the other person off because most people hate explaining themselves, but you'll get a good sense of whether they're just an A**hole or if there's a method to their madness.ย

Anything after that first bit is not allowed to be taken with offense. Thems the rules.ย

Hope this helps!

Light a bag of dog crap on fire and leave it on their porch. You canโ€™t tell a boss they suck. Either you deal, or secretly mess with them.
Nothing says you suck better than watching your boss stomp on dog turds.

Over-communicate with him until he stops. Text him your thoughts on deals constantly.
The day before a 1:1, send him an email with all the answers to all his typical questions.
I took this approach about 8 months ago with a similar manager (unhelpful, micro-managing). I can control micro-managing by micro-reporting.
