How do I tell my manager I need a macbook pro and not some garbage windows(and get it)

Literally every other person in the company has a macbook pro besides the SDR's, and an SDR just left this morning over the fact that the company computers suck. I talked with some other people in the company, who just bought their own, as well as asked my manager for one to which he said 'the windows pro is a great computer...' yet he uses a macbook pro

Also side note, he mentioned that he has an open checkbook for getting the right sdr's.

I want to just be like ' hey look, you mentioned you have an open checkbook, and an SDR left today over it, can I just get one?' but it feels way too insensitive and upfront like im gonna bruise his ego and my chances at getting a great territory

As well that is my minnimum request, Ideally I would want the whole 9 yards, a standing table, office chair, monitors, keyboard, mouse, ( I also asked for the previous, to which he said maybe about the monitors and keyboard and no to everything else) I was hoping he would give these to me and offer me a monthly stipend for office expenses like kombucha & cliff bars b. I mean, my last company did.

Am I being a whiny little bitch or?

We have to use a windows laptop because some aspects of our software are PC specific.  Everyone else that doesn't do demos or interact with customers uses Macs and it sucks.

If you can prove a benefit to having a better computer, do it.  If not, #smileanddial

Honestly I have a macbook pro and haaaate it!
The Mac is designed for creatives not sales folk Imho, the workflow is poor, a lot of apps such as outreach integration weren't built for Chrome for OS, and the transition from Windows to Apple has been and is still stressful.

I'd honestly take a 1.5K Windows PC over this 2k Macbook pro any day of the week

Imo you have to show it benefits the company and your work. The fact that other people have a MacBook isn't a strong enough argument if you can't show the added value to your work/productivity.

Right on, what would an example of that be? loading up salesforce pages with a slow processer vs fast or ?

Yes and whatever other program would be more compatible with a Mac than a PC. Why are other people using MacBook's ? There must be a reason they choose to supply employees with MacBook's instead of PC's. You could probably use one of those reasons.

Look I feel the opposite about MacBook. But if it if a Macbook will help you do a much better job then make the case for it. I think present it with the time efficiency angle.

I worked with both mac and pc and mac is waaaaaay cooler and overall smoother to work with so I hear your pain.
I am currently switching from a company where I use MAC to a PC company and I’m going to try to build a case for MACs as well, but I know a lot of the time the specific tech that the company sells or whatever other software they have is not very compatible with MAC so we’ll see.
Let me know how you managed to convince your boss. Kinda weird that other people have it and you’re not getting one. You could make a half serious half joking ppoint presentation on how MAC will make you perform better and present it to your boss. Be bold and creative

thats a great idea. they got me on a probook with a i5, 8gb of ram and 256gb of space, I feel like in general all the pages load slower, and it's less intuitive so things take longer, but it's not like I have a macbook pro right here to video tape the differences or something..

I was using Lenovo for the longest time and just switched to Mac. TBH, it didn't make me any more efficient/effective with my work.

Sorry to hear, that sucks! I'm not a fan of HP. With that said, your company should have a policy where everyone uses the same brand.

Have you talked to your IT department about potentially updating your RAM? 8gb is low for sales. 16gb is preferable so pages and excel workbooks can load faster. Macs in sales are complicated and it is typically easier to deploy applications to windows computers if you have a lot of people on boarding at your company. I work in IT sales so we hear the Mac vs windows complaint a lot- especially when it comes to millennials and younger because we grew up using macs for the most part.

If I’m being totally honest, this should’ve been negotiated when you took the job if you’re comparing it to your last place.

ive had both windows and Mac for work and there isn’t nothing really different in terms it helping you do the job, so maybe it comes across as you being pedantic?

why not ask for a chat and say this is your ideal set up to perform at 100% and ask what you can get/get money towards and then fork out for the rest?

Give him the business reasons why you need a MBP and tell him how it’s going to improve your work performance.
