How do people feel about dogs in the office?

About a week and a half ago someone's dog came in and took a hot Stanley steamer right next to my desk. The owner was in a meeting so I had to sit there and just take it out of principle. Should there be a certain trained checklist a dog has to follow to be allowed in the office?

I'd be hot if I were in your shoes. I know barging in meetings is not cool, but how is one supposed to cold call with a hot stanley next to them.

I think people overestimate how well behaved their dogs are. If the dog isnt quiet 99% of the time, it shouldn't be in the office

I stopped bringing my dog in because he simply wasn't ready to be there. He was always on alert, barked during a conference call or two, and made it hard for me to focus because he was 2 years old and really wanted to play. It's not for every dog, and it's not for every dog owner.

At least you can realize that, the dog has been in multiple times after. He's probably a multiple offender

The worst thing was my VPs dog pissed all over the office and he habitually denied it was his dog. There were a dozen in the building at any time, so he could get away with the charade, but it made me SO mad.

Mostly sounds like an inattentive owner. I love dogs, I think I'd just want some rules set in place before people bring their dogs in.

No dogs in the office over here. I believe you should be able to cut loose a little bit in the office, but having animals running around is too much. It’s a professional environment.. and there ain’t nothing professional about a yuge steamer right next to your desk

I guess it's a proxy for size of the Stanley.

Haha! Myself, I’m also concerned sometimes about my streamer. But then I remember that i ate Mexican food last night.

Dogs at office is a big plus! If they are ready for it.

Okay, so I work in the veterinary space. Dogs in the office is a given in my industry. Every office I’ve been in has had dogs. That said, because we’re in the veterinary space, everyone is generally well-educated in how to train and handle dogs so there are rarely problems. There’s occasional drama, but it’s mostly under control. That said, because of our industry, we all wouldn’t be all that upset or surprised by a dog taking a dump at our desks. Lolol

Dogs are like BDRs - I'd like them to be sitting next to me at all times, but I'd prefer they go bark at someone else 📞

I worked in an office where it was dog friendly and they were also going through "hyper growth" which meant everybody & they mama was bringing their dog into the office. Let's just say it didn't go well

I loveeeee doggies in the office but I always trust that my coworkers aren't asshats bringing in untrained dogs. Maybe the human should stay home next time.

Dogs allowed, but have to be trained.

Whenever there is a meeting my dog is in the office or room with me so I can watch them. They are not my coworkers concern. The owner should make sure the dog is walked and has taken care of business before/during work in an appropriate place. Accidents do happen, just kinda risk with a dog friendly office. How the owner and team handle it is really a big indicator if dogs should be in the office.

That said, I was running a demo once and two dogs ran under my desk and ripped the monitors off my desk.

I'm not a fan of dogs at the office. Amazon pays their corporate doggy day care people much more than warehouse people for good reason.

No dogs allowed in the new office. At my last gig I hear a trickle and look down and my colleagues 15 year old blind/deaf/arthritic shitzu is peeing on my desk...

I like the thought but in reality if my dog had an accident or another dog attacked mine or god forbid someone hurt my dog accidentally it would be messy quickly. Probably best to keep em seperated

Just no. Bring on all the cats, though. They’re quiet, they eliminate their waste in an acceptable area at all times, are unobtrusive, handle pest control and I’m 100% a proud crazy cat lady.
